Hi all,
I haven't been in this forum for a while, but I feel I am starting to overcome OCD. Thanks to several people who responded to my threads and answered my PM's. It begins with classifying what OCD is. As someone from this forum once told me, if it acts like OCD, chances are it is OCD. Once we know it, it is time to ignore it. These OCD thoughts are not a fact of reality. Ignoring it is similar to the Exposure Response Therapy. You just have to let it go. And you have to have FAITH that GOD is in CONTROL. God knows us better than we do. God knows our hearts!
One of the OCD struggles I had was posting on a hockey forum. One of the posters had a image of Jesus holding a Stanley Cup in their signature; it was photoshopped from the Passion of Christ. I was offended by that image and left the forum for over a year. However, I always wanted to express my opinion on our hockey team. I would view the website throughout the year and not post. Eventually I realized the poster removed the image. The thought popped up: would it be blasphemous to post in the same forum where another poster had an offensive image?
And the answer was 'No'.
I realize posting in a forum, even if there were offensive posters, has no association to me and no association to the unpardonable sin. I would further confirm this when I saw another poster who had a Bible Verse in their signature and realize I wasn't the only religious poster!
I think I have found relief when I rationalized the situation. It did take a while, but I am slowly closing in on each struggle and overcoming OCD in general. Personally, I think it helps if we have a sound Bible knowledge. I am not too familiar with The Bible. As a result, I have decided to spend time reading God's Word in the morning each day. I am starting from Genesis and occassionally reading Romans. It's amazing how a part of Genesis answered some of my fears!
Just wanted to share my experience. It's amazing how reading and understanding The Bible can answer our questions and fears of OCD.
