To continually receive "from above", or become a dry branch.
Hebrews 6:
7
For the earth which drinks in the rain that often comes upon it, and bears herbs
useful for those by whom it is cultivated, receives blessing from God;
8 but if it bears thorns and briers, it is rejected and near to being cursed, whose
end is to be burned.
John 15:
4
Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides
in the vine,
neither can you, unless you abide in Me.
5 I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much
fruit; for
without Me you can do nothing.
6 If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they
gather
them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.

This is the Lord's Discipline, for His disciples=disciplined ones.
Hebrews 12:11
Now no discipline seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who
have been trained by it.

1 Corinthians 11:32 But when we are convicted (by the Spirit), we are disciplined
by the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world.

I've seen in my life that the sins I can overcome are the ones that the Holy Spirit convinced me that I should repent of. Not all at once, but one after another, on down the line. I was just a willing participant in observing the power of God Almighty working in my life.

Not by might nor power, but by My Spirit.

It seems you left out some of the details important to this discussion

1Co 11:28 But a man must examine himself, and in so doing he is to eat of the bread and drink of the cup. 29 For he who eats and drinks, eats and drinks judgment to himself if he does not judge the body rightly. 30 For this reason many among you are weak and sick, and a number sleep. 31 But if we judged ourselves rightly, we would not be judged. 32 But when we are judged, we are disciplined by the Lord so that we will not be condemned along with the world.

If you believe yourself to be a Christian, and you practice sin, and do not see the discipline of the Lord as He says He gives it, i.e. "many among you are weak and sick, and a number sleep.", you never were His in the first place. Why? Because God says:

Heb 12:5 and you have forgotten the exhortation which is addressed to you as sons, "MY SON, DO NOT REGARD LIGHTLY THE DISCIPLINE OF THE LORD, NOR FAINT WHEN YOU ARE REPROVED BY HIM; 6 FOR THOSE WHOM THE LORD LOVES HE DISCIPLINES, AND HE SCOURGES EVERY SON WHOM HE RECEIVES." 7 It is for discipline that you endure; God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom his father does not discipline? 8 But if you are without discipline, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate children and not sons.
