Mskedi said:I'm wondering... from what I've read on this thread, it doesn't seem like many people think of Sleep Paralysis as just that... a medical occurence.
I dealt with sleep paralysis for about ten years. It was terrifying, yes, but I don't think I was being spiritually attacked. When someone finally told me what was happening medically, it was much less scary, and eventually I grew out of it. (A lot of times, according to the research I read, it starts going away in the late 20s). I get it now and again, but I've found no connection between sleep paralysis and my closeness with God.

What does TM stand for? I'm bad w/ acronyms.heron said:Immanuel, thanks for bringing this up. When I was younger, people were so cautious of TM and yoga... they knew about the spiritual connections. These days, everyone seems to use yoga casually for destressing and health, forgetting its history.
I had an experience just like yours when I was in high school. I knew that I might need to refuse participating, but the teacher insisted it was for gym credit and resented my "against my religion" request.
The man was late; I was relieved he might not come.
When he did arrive, I could feel dark and controlling spirits trail along with him so much, that while others wondered if he was going to show up, I could feel him outside the building. I felt him entering the building, walking through the stairwell toward the class. Everyone else jumped when he entered the door, not realizing he was there.
I don't think it's wrong to relax to that state, because it's the same brain activity level as one of our sleep stages. I think that many Christians do this in worship without realizing it. But "Let your spirit return to your body" --wow, that is so close to our conversation!
(Spirits can enter at high-anxiety times too...fear and anger and despair opening the door.)

TM--transcendental meditation, with a yogi to consult. This form is definitely an eastern religion and will claim to be. Other forms of yoga might discern between physical Hatha yoga and the deeper forms. All seem to recognize connections between body and spirit (which is recognized medically and scripturally).
The chanting...remember that chanting is part of Judaism too, so Jesus might have chanted. I think you're right, that repetition puts people into that self-hypnotic state, but the amount of harm would depend what one is saying.
I think it would be safe, as a classroom assistant, to mention that spirit-control is a religious practice, and at the very least, parents should be notified. This site might be useful in backing up a statement that yoga is a religion.

You might also look into the US gov's list of nonprofit religious organizations, and see if some are classified that way.
Where do you get that information from?Ajax 777 said:Certainly you can write a letter to your state Representative, your state's Senator, as well as the head pastor of your church, who could also write a letter or perhaps even a petition signed by all the members of your church.
