• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Well we went to another service! This time they served communion and it was by intinction. The Pastor gave my 4 mos old daughter a blessing, i thought that was so nice!! :)

There are some definite differences in the new church and it will be an adjustment, but both hubby and i like it and so do the kids. It is hard to be new and not know people so i am glad that On Ash wednesday and every wed during lent they have a soup supper followed by a lenten service. Also this coming Saturday is a Spaghetti dinner. It gives us opportunities to meet and talk with others!!

Two of the woman from our previous church made comments on my Facebook account yesterday about missing us and it put me in a bad emotional state. i was crying. But i had to remind myself that we have a long list of reasons for leaving our church, and though i will miss people there, we have not taken the decision to leave lightly. It will just take time to adjust, make friends and feel like we are at home.

anyways, just wanted to share with you all that it looks like we will be staying and i am excited for the new journey!

Wonderful!
Looks like we're going to be staying with our "new church", too. Like yours, our church is going to hold a dinner before service, and I think that is an incredibly awesome tradition. Not sure if it is common, but I had never heard of it in our area before attending this ELCA church. The one thing that totally flipped me out, though, was the fact that one of the church's kitchen ladies mentioned that she has to get the ham for the meal. HAM? What, MEAT is not only allowed, but served???!!!! I think my eyes got as big as saucers when she said that! lol! Old habits die hard.
Hope you enjoy it. I'm trying to get my students to reschedule Weds' class (I teach from 5-7pm, but the dinner begins at 6, so I'm going to beg to persuade them).
Oh, and don't forget to check out the Christian Ed (adult ed, or whatever it is called) that your church might offer. Even though you come from a Christian background you can certainly learn a bit from them - and I'm sure you can contribute a bunch from your time with other religions/denoms as well.

Lost Squirrel,
We are having "soup suppers" before the wed night services every week. The bulletin says "soup, bread, cheese and fruit" so i have no idea if there is any meat in the soup or whether there is any non-meat eating going on during lent like they do in the Catholic church, but we have been away from the Catholic church for 15 yrs anyway so it dont matter one way or another to me. Maybe someone else can chime in on the meat issue!! or maybe i will start an actual thread for it..i think i willll..look for it!!

That is neat that you and i are both starting in the ELCA at the same time, we can learn together. how fun!!
