  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

The only good thing about them this year is that The Aviator didn't win any of the big awards.

 I guess you don't like Howard Hughes lol

The whole Oscars thing has become stupid.

Why do you say that?

I watched the Oscars tonight-I enjoyed parts of it such as the close-ups of Johnny Depp, the acceptance speeches of Hilary Swank and Jamie Foxx, Morgan Freeman winning, the close-ups of Johnny Depp, Beyonce singing the Chorus song, Yo-Yo Ma tribute to deceased celebs, and did I mention close-ups of Johnny Depp :D

Chris Rock-I really hope that he doesn't host next year. I like Billy Crystal and Whoopi Goldberg better.

the Oscars have nothing to do with what is "The best" - only with what the people who nominate and vote can be persuaded to support.

They are meaningless. When the best picture by far is competely ignored simply because the director of the film refused to play the Hollywood politics game, then it's time to ignore the Oscars.

No problem with Mr Hughes. Big problem with Leonard DeCapitated's portrayal of him and the movie was just plain BORING.

Alfred Hitchcock, Stanley Kubrick & Martin Scorcese: what do these three all-time great directors have in common?

None of them ever won a 'Best Director' oscar. Just goes to show how worthless the oscars are.

Reminds me of Jimmy (Schnozzle) Durante's jibe: "Everybody's got an agenda!"

My pal Lon began a good thread on this @ www.xt3.com today

See General Discussion board for his remarkable 9 posts - as Ranger1 - since I got banned for being too truthful about their deceitful practices towards the gullible teens they target - by mimicking this fine site in their online ads

Not Oscar-worthy!

Lon is - what a great clown, eh??

God bless!

I was covering my face with embarassment a lot of times during some of Chris Rock's jokes... but I'd be a liar to say that I didn't LOL with a lot of what he said. Some of my favourite Chris Rock quotes from last night are the following:

"Soon to be seen in the upcoming Catwoman 2, here's Halle Berry!"

"If you want Russel Crowe, but all you can get right now is Colin Farrell.... WAIT!!"

I can't remember the exact wording of the next quote, but it was when he was commenting on the fact that Farenheit 9/11 didn't get nominated, but Super-Size Me did. And he said that Michael Moore would've been good to direct that doc because he's "done the research". Heh!

yeah. that^ was funny.

the academy awards are a joke though.
everything is insanely politically correct. the choices of who wins and who doesn't is totally stupid (they're as different as apples and oranges these roles and movies! how could you possibly say which one is better?)

i say, all the Academy Awards are is rich beautiful people flaunting themselves on the red carpet advertising for big companies. that's really the only thing that has a purpose in the whole show.

and i still don't see how people think Johnny Depp is "hot."

I was a little disappointed with some of the people who won. Granted I haven't seen all the films that were nominated for the big awards, but I don't know I don't think Jamie Foxx deserved best actor. I didn't really care for Ray, thought it was kind of boring and really Foxx's performance didn't do anything for me. I think a main reason he won is because of Ray Charles' death this past year. Had he still been alive, it might have played out differently.

I also think Kate Winslet should have won for best actress. She was great in Eternal Sunshine and I just think she is an awesome actress. Poor Annette Benning to have to lose to Swank for the second time in a row..lol.

I do have to say it was nice that Aviator didn't just do a clean sweep. With the way the night was going in the beginning, it looked like it was going to..

I loved Robin Williams' little thing. Although I found out today that the reason he came out with the tape on his mouth was kind of as a sting to the Academy and the FCC and everyone else because he was told he couldn't say certain things, thus being censored. So that was to kind of show that.

But overall it wasn't a bad show, although they need to give the awards based on who deserves it, not just on who campaigns the best. Kind of sucks...

I'm also happy that fellow North Texan Jamie Foxx won-he put on a superb performance-right down to the mannerisms of Ray Charles!

Well, one way to judge whether a movie is better than another is to have standards that certain movie genres must hold to and then judge the movies by those standards.

This is what is basically done in the dog show world. For example, there is a "breed standard". Each breed (beagle, fox terrier, dachsund, english bulldog, etc.) is to be judged by that breed standard. For example, a beagle is not compared to a bloodhound, instead the bloodhound in compared to the Bloodhound standard and the beagle is judged by the Beagle standard. If the beagle is judged to be in closer conformity to the Beagle standard then the bloodhound is to the Bloodhound standard then the Beagle wins.

That is one way to judge which movie deserves Best Picture, etc., and there are probably better ways as well. I'm not saying that the individual Academy members use this sort of system, but it is a good way to determine which movie is better then another IMO.
