  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I'm curious as to the conservative reaction to bin Laden's death.

My own reaction is that of joy and a bit of somberness as well. Joy that a goal has been completed that will with any luck lead to more peace around the world. And somberness that the problem needed to be solved with deliberate violence.

I would have much rather he was captured.

How so?

I suppose it does after all this time.

If Osama had been video broadcasting weekly or monthly and we got more lip from him than some garbled audio every few years maybe it would seem like a bigger deal, but in some ways it just seemed like he dropped off the face of the earth..which he did since SpecOp hounds were after him:cool:

I would much rather he had repented and saved his life for at least the next life where we will all spend eternity. It is a shame that someone wastes their life on deception and then ends their life in deception which ultimately destroys them here and in the next life.

However he reaped what he sowed and once we plant a seed we can expect to reap a crop. So we should all be careful what we plant.

That's true. I had forgotten that he was basically in seclusion for years. I guess that's the point you're making! lol

I saw that earlier today...love it!

So true.

My Missouri roots are showing when I say they are gonna have to "Show Me" the proof~~at the end of the day we have gov't bureaucrats sayin' something happened...call me skeptical but..

Yeah, fair enough. There could be some political power plays going on here, but hard to say if that will come to light or if it is indeed the case.

However, assuming the info is indeed true, my initial reaction was mixed. For one, I think that it was the only option and that it is absolutely just that he was killed. But while I am relieved and believe it was the way things had to go down, I am not exactly rejoicing either. Another hardened heart now resides in the eternal wrath of a Holy God. Sobering thought. It is a just thing, but not a joyful one. Additionally, where one evil man passes, another will take his place. The world has no shortage of evil men and never has.

I really appreciated reading this article. It well represents the Christian response:
The Death of Osama bin Laden: What Kind of Justice Has Been Done? | Christianity Today | A Magazine of Evangelical Conviction

On another note, I think the overall reaction would have been quite dramatically different had it happened under Bush's watch.

call me skeptical

Sir, you're skeptical.

I have a lot of mixed feelings/thoughts on the matter that I won't go into. If he did indeed die, and if he died on this occasion (as opposed to some other time however long ago), then I see no reason to rejoice. First, one evil man is replaced by another, so we haven't really done anything. Second, as someone else said elsewhere, when we kill an evil man we don't kill the evil; we just kill a man. Third, why should we, as Christians, rejoice when someone dies? That does neither him nor us nor the world any good.

Can we be certain he died unsaved? For all we know, he could have been saved at the very last moment of his life.

I am certain of nothing, however, the circumstances would seem to indicate that he was defiant to the end with no remorse or change of character. That would be indicative of him not repenting nor surrendering to Christ. In fact quite the opposite appears to be the case, for him, Christians must die for they are the infidels against allah.

I hope that this is the case.
It is always sad when someone's life ends, especially in a violent manner.
He did a great deal of evil - but in God's eyes he was just another sinner, for whom He wept.
