Okay, so I met with Fr. James tonight and told him everything.

His response: "There are several parochial/Christian schools in town. Let me know which ones you like, and we'll go from there. All will be well. Be at peace. "

I felt so much better talking to him. I told him that the academics at the RC schools (there are several) were very good and he agreed, but he also wants me to look at the Lutheran school. He felt that it would be much easier to deal with theology, than with worldly values....I am so relieved, I cannot tell you!!! He did say that part of his vision for our mission church is that someday we will have our very own Orthodox school!!! :) But this will take years (and money) to implement.

I don't know anything about the Lutheran school, except that they are very small and their academic scores are high, in the top 2-5 percentile. Wow! The RC schools are the same. The public school she currently attends routinely scores in the top 25 percent but nowhere near that kind of attainment! :o

Homeschooling is just not an option for us ...my husband and I have some "debt" that require me to work for at least another year or two. The ironic thing is: I could make all the money required all by myself, if I went to sea for nine months. But I can't do that either. It will take me twice as long to earn, so that I don't have to leave my family...oh the irony of life...

I went to public school and turned out just fine, having recently re-discovered my christian roots.

I feel, personally, that if i were forced to go to a religious private school, i would have turned out warped and backward, having spent my school-life in an athiestic stage. it would not have encouraged faith, but rather forced it upon me. since i was able to discover it on my own, all is best.

send your kid to a lutheran or catholic school and spend your evenings correcting what they teach, otherwise you'll get a rapture ready orthodox or a pope following, rosary praying orthodox.

I hope everything works out with your daughter's school situation. After reading all that has been written, it has only strengthened my conviction to place my children in a private/religious school; That is, if I ever have children.
It makes me want to become qualified to teach in a parochial school. If my family can afford it, I'll do it pro bono just to help keep the cost of tuition down a little! :)

I am suprised your pastor seemed to suggest the Lutheran school over the Catholic school. I would have thought EO considered Catholic "The next best thing" - is that not true?
I know I do. I would have so say that most Orthodox do think of the RC as the next best thing.

well fwiw, I certaintly think of EO that way ;)

Hi cajun!!! I think the only reason he brought it up is because it does have a high academc record there....I don't think he "prefers" it over the RC schools...he only suggested it because it is very small, and academically a very good one....But I think ultimately it will be the RC school....
