  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I come from an Islamic country, but there are a lot of christians in here, many of which do not realize the true theme of christianity!

The only three denominations in my country are: Orthodox, Catholic, and Protestants. And, most of the people here are Orthodox, especially in rural areas, who misunderstand what it is to be a christian, the most.

The problem with the christians here, especially with the majority who are Orthodox, is that they have adopted a purely false islamic idea that man will be judged according to how much he followed the rules (or as the Orthodox here call them, the holy secrets). Unfortunately, most of them believe that if a christian performs his "duties" towards God...then that's it! He/She will go to heaven. In other words, for those people they only owe God going to church each week, confession to the priest on regular basis (even if the person does not really regret his sins), praying daily from a book that the church has specified (they call it "Agbeya"), and reading the bible everyday.... then that's it! They believe that as long as they abide by these rules, they will go to heaven.

I was talking with an 18 years old guy yesterday, and he told me, "I know all about being prepared and being ready for the time may come, as you say, in any hour and any minute. But, there are other things that you would not understand that will only make me go to heaven. You wouldn't understand because all what you know is praise and prayer!" and when I asked such fellow, "do you think that when you pass away, the Lord will ask you whether or not you were an Orthodox, and if you were, you will go to heaven? do you really think that God will accept you in heaven only if you are an Orthodox?" and the guy said "yes."

This is how so many people in my country think at present. But the point is, what I have failed to clarify to any of my Orthodox friends, that God only looks at the heart... did you or did you not follow Him with your heart? did you or did you not prove that you have earned to be called a christian... a brother/sister to the Lord Jesus Christ??? these are the things you should look for... and this is the question that you should ask yourself: "if my time comes now, where would I end? am I prepared yet? or have I just wasted my time?"

++ Let us not think with ignorance in our heart... and also, let us open our doors so that the one who has been waiting, knocking, and calling upon us for a long long time!

Your post brought these verses to mind.

John 14:6
Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well.

John 14:10
... it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work.

John 14:15-17
If you love me, you will obey what I command. 16And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever-- 17the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.

John 6:28-29
Then they asked him, "What must we do to do the works God requires?"
29Jesus answered, "The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent."

Galatians 3:5-6
Does God give you his Spirit and work miracles among you because you observe the law, or because you believe what you heard?
6Consider Abraham: "He believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness."

What happened to the giving of their time, talents and money? Where is serving their follow man? What happened to Loving One Another? A true Christian is placed on this Earth to serve man, not be served by man. Jesus said that we are in this world, not of this world. Our time here is but brief and eternity is forever. When was the last time they fed the hungry or help a sick person? Did they ever visit a person in prison? Have they ever encouraged another person or told them about Jesus? People will know who I am by the way I live and act. We are to be Fishers of Men.

I think that you will find that if you visit the Orthodox sub-section of CF you will not find that as the prevailing attitude. People born into any religion with a lukewarm view of things and with lack of study will think and say certain things.

I am a convert to Orthodoxy and am not influenced by Muslim theology at all.

Anyway, we'd love to have you visit us over at The Ancient Way.

Come and see...

God bless you!

In IC XC,
Marjorie
