Hello all,

I'm posting about Orphanage work. I've been looking into it and I am falling in love with the idea of doing it ful time. I am most intrested in orphanage work in 3rd world countries.

My question, is there anyone here who works in an orphanage? Is there any certain training/education I should look into getting for this field. Are there any orginizations that I could get some info on? Or anything someone has to say about this I would love to hear.

Thanks

Hi Hologram

Over the past 9 months our church has had a few missionaries from an orphanage in Thailand visit us and tell us about them. I fell in love with the idea of working in an orphanage and as a result I desire to go to Thailand for a short term missions trip to start with. A family from a church I used to go to are training at a place called New Tribes Mission in Australia.

They are completing the Diploma in Cross Cultural Training which is great for helping to understand other cultures and pick up their languages. It is recommended that you do some form of training before going into full time missions overseas as I am told it can be testing at times and the training will help a lot. I dont think Bible College is the best idea from what others have told me...I think missions training is the best..just my opinion and the opinion of a few highly respected pastors I know.

The family I know desire to go to Thailand and actually start an orphanage and I am thinking of going over to help start it. I know I would fall in love with the children and never want to leave..I would want to take them all home. I guess I should get married and have my own children hehe. Anyhow, I felt very lead to do this and I think it would an absolutely rewarding experience in serving God. The Website for the orphanages already in Thailand that the missionaries visited us from is a USA site...a church there...as below:

Hope to hear many comments on this forum
