I attended a christian school growing up and I attended church on sundays as a kid. I was always too afraid to ask questions back then but now these questions need to be answered.
- I use to pray very hard as a kid and to my disappointment no answer was given. God obviously has no idea how much a simple hello can change a lonely kids day. What is the point of having a "father" who does not communicate with his children?
The Lord truly does talk to us, we just have to be listening to Him. God doesn't always speak with the voice of thunder and lightning.
In Samuel's life things were actually quite different. At a young age when he lived with Eli, the Lord came to him one night, talking to him. He thought it was Eli. If the voice wasn't one that seemed so simple then do you think that he wouldn't have so easily confused it with Eli?
The Lord also talks to us through circumstances. He may never use an actual word with us, not the kind you hear aloud anyways, and simply work through the various trials in our life.
He also works through that small still leading in our hearts. The Holy Spirit is always there to speak and guide, provided that we are willing to listen.
And then you never know, maybe the Lord truly wasn't talking to you; but for a purpose. There is a character in the OT, one that I can't think of at the moment, whome the Lord actually hid His face from. All things are done for the good of those who love the Lord; even the things that make no sense at all.
Just remember, that if you Honestly seek the face of God, then by time you are close enough to hear His wispers He will have you in His arms. Look for the Lord in all things, and you will find how His voice speaks to you.
