Ex 34:7

maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wicknedeness, rebellion and sin. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children and their children for the sin of their fathers to the third and fourth generation.

Eze 18:20

20 The soul who sins is the one who will die. The son will not share the guilt of the father, nor will the father share the guilt of the son. The righteousness of the righteous man will be credited to him, and the wickedness of the wicked will be charged against him.

Do these 2 verses contradict each other or original sin?

yes....or original sin if you are a new poster

Well, since Original or Ancestral sin is a condition of the soul, it doesn't make much sense for new posters to consider if the punishment contradicts it either.

Punishing the children to the third and fourth generation-Certain sinful traits will carry on to your descendants. Alcoholism, for instance, can be a hereditary sickness. The third and fourth generations are affected by the sins of their forefathers. They are not however, held accountable to God for their fathers sin, as the second verse quoted states. Punishment doesn't necessarily mean death.

They do not contradict each other. In Ezekiel chapter 18, you must back up to the first 3 verses to understand why....

1 The word of the LORD came to me: 2 "What do you people mean by quoting this proverb about the land of Israel:
" 'The fathers eat sour grapes,
and the children's teeth are set on edge'?

3 "As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign LORD, you will no longer quote this proverb in Israel.

God wanted us to be sure that our sin was our sin, but I honestly do not know if it has anything to do with original sin.

Oblio,

You haven't answered the 2 questions. It's quite simple. I dont know what my 988 posts has to do with "new posters".

el-j,

You specifically mentioned new posters in post #5 as a conditional, that is why I mentioned them. Whether one is new or not, OS does not apply to the verses at hand.

Do these two verses contradict each other, no. Ex 34:7 is referring to the ramifications resulting from man’s sin and the effects it will have on family and loved ones, while Eze 18:20 is concerning the guilt of man once he sins. These are two entirely different topics.
Concerning rather or not either contradict the original sin aspect of scripture, again, the answer would be no. As stated earlier original sin is a condition of man’s nature and not a persistent punishment based on Adam’s original sin. I hope this addresses your question as you wanted. As always my love to all and May God Bless. :prayer:
