  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hi, I'm new here. I've been enlightened by reading many things on here and really enjoy this site. Just wanted opinions of a few wise christians. I've been struggling with what to do job/career wise. I have been working less than satisfying part-time jobs for the last couple of years making barely enough to get by. I love crafting and art and have often wished I could do it for a living (but know I'd have to be a lot better than I am for that to happen) I guess my question is, do you think God cares what we do for a living as long as it isn't immoral, sinful or illegal? Some times I feel guilty for wanting to do something that I would enjoy instead of something "important" like nursing, social work, etc. that bores me to death. But then I think about the christian ball players and such; how "important" are their jobs? But God seems to bless them. Does He care as long as we don't put the job first? I'm not looking for great wealth, just contentment in what I do. Just wondering what other's thoughts are on this. God Bless!

Hi Paloco51,

I don't think it matters how we make a living, providing we do nothing that harms others, including animals and the environment. But I wouldn't be too quick to assume making a living from what is enjoyed as a hobby would be beneficial for everyone.

If you can happily spend 8 plus hours a day as a commercial artist, chef, or whatever else is your thing, working on projects you might not enjoy in your spare time, and which might become repetitive and chore like, I don't see a problem at all.

It is a very rare few who get paid to do what they would do for nothing. Most of us do not escape the curse of Eden, procuring bread from the sweat of our brow.

I think God gives each of use a skill or talent, whether it is in the creative field, sports, business, administrative, etc. If you can figure out your skill and talent and nurture it, eventually the money will come and you'll be paid for doing what you love to do - and the best part is that if you love what you're doing you won't mind working hard to reach your goals, because its not really "work" at that point
