Like most people, I was saddened to hear the news of the five men that lost their lives in the Titan Gateway tragedy. My brother messaged me today to tell me that 500 people had drowned near Greece. I was really shocked and heartbroken. Being part Greek, naturally, it made me feel very sad for many who had lost their lives in this tragedy. I imagine drowning would be a terrible way to die. On my FB update, I made the comment, 500 people drowned near Greece along with the newstory. This was my friend's response. She always responds like this. I think she is a Calvnist. She doesn't show much compassion. I reminded her that there may have been saved people on that boat. Maybe children, too. I responded to her in love, but her constant slabs of bible verses really get to me at times.

This is her response to my FB update:-

"When Almighty God, says our time on this earth is up, no one can rescue us, unless He says so. A good opportunity for us all to know what our Maker wants of us. Ecclesiastes Chapter 12 Verses 13 & 14. " The conclusion, when all has been heard, is: fear God and keep His commandments, because this applies to every person. For God will bring every act to judgement, everything which is hidden, whether it is good or evil." Also Isaiah Chapter 8 Verse 13. ' It is the LORD of hosts whom you shopuld regard as holy. And He shall be your fear, And He shall be your dread." And from the mouth of one of God's angels, in Revelation Chapter 14 Verse 7. " and he said with a loud voice, " Fear God, and give Him glory, because the hour of His judgement has come; worship Him who made the heaven and the earth and sea and springs of waters."

I hear you. She's farting out bible quotes in a particularly tone-deaf manner. When someone misuses Scripture by ripping verses out of context - especially in a way that makes it hard to ascertain what their assertion is - I call it "farting". The Word of God deserves better than to be abused in this way.

Their time may very well have been up, but we have no way of knowing that. And I dare not attempt to speculate on this. We aren't in the business of second-guessing God. I don't recall Jesus or anyone else saying "their time was up" of those who perished when the Tower of Siloam collapsed. I wouldn't dare say that of those who perished on 9/11 or any other manmade tragedy or crime.

I've seen such crimes where many people die at a nightclub and some idiot purporting to be a Church elder will say something like "they deserved what they got" in response. I would curse such people to their face with words I cannot type here. I would consider it a travesty to allow their blasphemies to go unchecked. I want to communicate to the unsaved that such people do not speak for us.

Anyone can copy-and-paste scripture verses, but the real value is in the application. If she keeps farting out bible quotes in an abusive manner, I would advise her to consult a physician - preferably one who can write her a prescription for industrial-strength Gas-X!

For one thing, we need to realize that the book of Ecclesiastes is considered by many to be "The memoires of a fallen preacher in a fallen world."
Solomon is recounting his life of up and down faith. Some of the things he is recounting are merely human wisdom. Some is almost paganism. The key words are "vanity vanity all is vanity." Not exactly a Christian or even faith approach to life and God's creation. So take with a grain of salt everything written in the book.
