  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I don't think anything can take the place of being commited and involved with a local church, however I do believe that in some situations an online church is needful. It that case it is not only appropriate, but a blessing.

I love the fellowship here. It is a great blessing to me, but I could never leave my church. God's moving powerfully there, and my whole family is growing in the Lord there.

Is there such a thing?

I don't believe it to be possible but what are your thoughts?

Actually there is such a thing!

You can find it at www.lifechurch.tv

Its really quite good and does not appear to have any affiliations to any of the main denominational churches, whilst adhering to the tenets of scripture. I've been 'attending' for a couple of months so far and the preaching is great - the worship tends to be an acquired taste, but the chat rooms, fellowship, and small group structures they are trying to get off the ground are all pretty good (if a little US biased - timings and such).

If learning something from scripture is what you are after, you might want to try Sermon Audio: http://www.sermonaudio.com/main.asp . Some of their stuff is too conservative for my taste, but I have not run across teaching that completely rubbed me the wrong way, it is usually pretty good.

2 Cor. 10:7-11
Do ye look on things after the outward appearance? If any man trust to himself that he is Christ's, let him of himself think this again, that, as he is Christ's, even so are we Christ's. [8] For though I should boast somewhat more of our authority, which the Lord hath given us for edification, and not for your destruction, I should not be ashamed: [9] That I may not seem as if I would terrify you by letters. [10] For his letters, say they, are weighty and powerful; but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech contemptible. [11] Let such an one think this, that, such as we are in word by letters when we are absent, such will we be also in deed when we are present.

One thing online groups do is prevent us from looking at the outward appearance of each other Another thing is we might be more powerful in writing letters than in person. We have more time to hunt and post actual scripture rather than the first thing that pops our of our mouths. :o Therefore we should be able to use the word more effectively to exhort one another. Though and e-hug is not as warm as a real one.

Ah thank you Wino. Come recite this pledge with me...

My name is [insert name] and I am a church-a-holic. I have abstained from church meetings for [insert time period] and, God willing, I will never face one ever again.

I will endevour to avoid all *holy* jargon, such as "praise", "hallelujah" and "lord" - as it is my confession that I forgot the true meaning of these words long, long ago.

I hope never to neglect the World in favour of "the Church" ever again; I will follow Jesus through the marketplaces, meetingplaces, holyplaces and desertplaces of the World he inhabits. This means I may never set foot in a church building again.

I will never again settle for giving only a tenth to God (whom church pretended to be) and declare that today I devote my 100% self to God, giving to others in all things as I see fit.

Lastly, I declare that I will pursue community and family with Jesus - leaving church, members and meetings far behind us.

That sounds great except for the opening paragraph . I was never adicted to "going to church" . It was simply that I was involved with groups that had the doctrine that going to "church" was needed for salvation .

I was forcibly raised as Catholic and their *written* and oral doctrines state that missing *one* Sunday ( related ) mass will send you to hell . The excpetions would be if one is sick and unable to physically go but one should go to a "priest" for permission or such . Also , if one changes their attitude and again *agrees* that going to every Sunday ( related ) mass and mass for *all* of the days of obligation is necessary . So , missing one and continuing to think that it is ok will damn a person .

While noncatholic groups may not specifically say such , their attitude is the same .

Somehow , I never took it seriously . I don't know why . I suppose that I knew the Lord well enough that He wasn't *that* silly as to have me go these meetings where they say and do the same things over and over so that one can do it in their sleep . I can remember leaving several times barely remembering going through the motions .

:)
