  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Those were really neat. I like the Catholic one and also the one at belief net. But I wasn't able to "peek" at the first one because they seem to know that it's not December 1st yet for me. :D

What is an advent wreath? Have you ever seen one? The advent calendar at beliefnet mentioned this, and I thought that might be an interesting tradition. Evidently, you light a candle every day. But surely it's not a real wreath. Wouldn't that be a fire hazard? ;)

edit: It actually is made with evergreens. Hmm... I guess I could make one if I thought my husband wouldn't mind there being a shrubbery on the dining table. hehe

We have an advent wreath every year. Ours is made of metal. It's a ring with 4 candle holders attached to it. We also have another candle in the centre that is the Christ candle. On the first Sunday of advent, we light the first candle. On the second Sunday we light the first two candles, etc. and on Christmas day we light the Christ candle as well. I've also seen ones in a star shape, with each of the candles being at one point on the star, and the Christ candle is at the top of the star.

We usually have red or purple candles for the 4 Sundays of advent, and the Christ candle is white. Sometimes, for the 3rd Sunday of advent the candle is pink... I think cuz it represents Love, or something.

Anyway, that's what we do in my family! :)
