The movie is based on a fictional novel about Esther called, "Hadassah ~ One Night With The King." The book is better than the movie, in my opinion.
I really like the movie very much, though. There's a couple of "lines" in there that they had the King say, that I know were supposed to point us to Jesus.
Such as a scene when, after they are already married, Esther is concerned about the King as he is getting ready to leave for war. He hands a necklace to her (which she had previously given to him, on the night that she had her 'one night') ....
He says to her, "Keep our necklace for me."
she responds, "but it was a gift to you, it is yours!"
To which he says,
"Then be at peace. I always return for what is mine."

That melted my heart, let me tell you!
The fiction novel was preceded by a non-fiction, teaching type book called Finding Favor With The King. It is by Tommy Tenney. I HIGHLY recommend it. It is absolutely beautiful.
It teaches how Esther approached the King, the attitudes of her heart that were reflected in her behavior towards him.
For example, any of the maidens who were chosen had the choice of apparel and jewels that they would wear when they'd meet the king.
Esther only requested what Hegai chose for her. The author of this book teaches that he believes Hegai is meant to be a type of the Holy Spirit. Therefore we should 'consult' the Holy Spirit as to what would make us attractive to our King.
One other very important point made in this book is that we must love the King for who he is, not for what he can give us.

This is shown in the film in several different ways. You'll get much more out of watching the movie if you have read the books first, especially "Finding Favor With The King."
There are Many treasures in this book! Please get a copy and read it. n You won't regret it, I promise.
I can honestly say this book truly was a life-changer for me. I thank God for it.
