When my uncle died, we went to his funeral and were surprised by the eulogy. The man the priest described was so different from the one we knew. The Edward that the priest talked about was a loving and wonderful man, working hard at the church on every occasion, taking the elderly to doctor's appointments, feeding the shut-ins, caring for the homeless, being a little ray of sunshine to everyone who met him. The Eddie we knew swore and got drunk, was a tyrant to his family, told dirty jokes that would make a sailor blush. There were two Uncle Eddies--the church Eddie and the home Eddie. The church Eddie looked like a saint, but the home Eddie lived like the devil.

I think this happens a lot more than we ever realize.

Definitely it is a matter of throwing it away (because we want our own way), rather than losing it. But sadly it happens a lot.

With that said even if we "throw it away" does that mean that god ever leaves us? Since God says "I will never leave you nor forsake you" in Hebrews 13 verse 5 and deut. 31 verse 6, Does that mean that even if you turn away from him that he would turn away from you? I think that if a person turns his back on God he does not stop being his child and therefore can't possibly lose his salvation. God would be upset that the person turned his back on him for sure. God wouldn't take away the person's salvation because Salvation is a gift from God. All you have to do is believe and take the gift.~Alec

Amen sister!
There is a common ground of people here, those who play the role and have no faith and those who claim the role but do not play the part.

There needs to be a phrase coined for those who try to work their way to heaven without ever acknowledging Christ. The Pharisees played the role but had no faith. They looked rightous, acted rightous but they needed a saviour just like everyone else.

Work saves always saves?? Something to that matter.......Someone came up with OSAS, there needs to be another one for those who work and do not believe.

I agree. The question is - was he ever saved? Didn't God see exactly what was in Eddie's heart and know exactly whether Eddie truly believed in Him?
We cannot judge it in truth. But God knew all along.

Have you ever noticed that no matter how rotten someone in life is that when they die, they are all prayed into heaven. You would think a saint had passed away for after death we try to remember the good in a person and not think of the bad. To hear most folks talk everybody is going to be in heaven. But of course we know that only those that are saved and born again are going to be there and there will be a lot of squalling and balling of those that go to heaven when they realize that some of their love ones did not make it. But I believe that is when Jesus dries up all those tears and all will be erased concerning the bad things.
Of course not only are the obvious sinners will not be there by themselves for there are going to be many great and wonderful folks that did much good in the world that will be in hell also for one reason and one reason only! Not how good they were on earth, but ignoring Christ and his shedding of blood for us.

Reading what the sister wrote about the fellow that the Priest praised , brings remembrance of my own brother that passed away many years ago. I loved him and he was a great brother but he had faults like us all but the one thing that he never did was receive Jesus as Lord even after much prayer from his family. He let modern worldly thought keep him from believing in Jesus and one day he took his own life. He did not go to church of course and the funeral home had to hire a preacher to do the service.
Since this hireling knew nothing about this man all he could think to do is relate my brother to a dirty little bird that shook the dust off and I suppose this was somehow supposed to comfort us that like the dusty little bird my brother would be ok for he was like the bird. It was pitiful for one thing to even see and hear this and think how my brother did not have to be like a dusty little bird but he could have been washed white as snow by the Blood of the Lamb.
