  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Yes, but I am still musing over this
whole topic.

I believe you raise some very good
points Christina.

I don't believe that Mary was
a virgin after Jesus, but you
raise some good points about
chastity.
DEEP subject for sure.
As is the entire Bible.

Keep studying the Word girl,

The Bride is to remain a virgin.

That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and withoutblemish.(Eph 5:27)

A virgin bride is one who does not fornicate. Only has eyes for her Husband.

I still want to know who it is better for? Can not a married woman that is faithful to her husband be as pure as a virgin? Or is sex somehow defiled between a husband and wife and where is this spoken of? God Said it was Good.

They're just happier, free to serve the Lord without the cares that comes with a husband or wife, and children. But then again, i would not even think of giving up my kids, they are a joy from the Lord, lot of time and worry, even though the Lord says not to worry.

1Cr 7:25 ¶ Now concerning virgins I have no commandment of the Lord: yet I give my judgment, as one that hath obtained mercy of the Lord to be faithful.

1Cr 7:26 I suppose therefore that this is good for the present distress, [I say], that [it is] good for a man so to be.

1Cr 7:27 Art thou bound unto a wife? seek not to be loosed. Art thou loosed from a wife? seek not a wife.

1Cr 7:28 But and if thou marry, thou hast not sinned; and if a virgin marry, she hath not sinned. Nevertheless such shall have trouble in the flesh: but I spare you.

1Cr 7:29 But this I say, brethren, the time [is] short: it remaineth, that both they that have wives be as though they had none;

1Cr 7:30 And they that weep, as though they wept not; and they that rejoice, as though they rejoiced not; and they that buy, as though they possessed not;

1Cr 7:31 And they that use this world, as not abusing [it]: for the fashion of this world passeth away.

1Cr 7:32 But I would have you without carefulness. He that is unmarried careth for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please the Lord:

1Cr 7:33 But he that is married careth for the things that are of the world, how he may please [his] wife.

1Cr 7:34 There is difference [also] between a wife and a virgin. The unmarried woman careth for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit: but she that is married careth for the things of the world, how she may please [her] husband.

1Cr 7:35 And this I speak for your own profit; not that I may cast a snare upon you, but for that which is comely, and that ye may attend upon the Lord without distraction.

1Cr 7:36 But if any man think that he behaveth himself uncomely toward his virgin, if she pass the flower of [her] age, and need so require, let him do what he will, he sinneth not: let them marry.

1Cr 7:37 Nevertheless he that standeth stedfast in his heart, having no necessity, but hath power over his own will, and hath so decreed in his heart that he will keep his virgin, doeth well.

1Cr 7:38 So then he that giveth [her] in marriage doeth well; but he that giveth [her] not in marriage doeth better.

1Cr 7:39 The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord.

1Cr 7:40 But she is happier if she so abide, after my judgment: and I think also that I have the Spirit of God.

The Bride being the Church.
and?

are you going to answer how the church is to be a virgin, when the majority is not? Or are you willing to admit that Paul was using symbolic language regarding a chaste virgin bride, and was not placing lifelong virginity in the light in which you put it?

Paul called the Church a virgin. He also called It Holy, Spotless, without blemish, or wrinkle.

Of course not. This does not, though, affect It's Purity.

The flow of history confirms the reality of the Gospel: the Church is filled to overflowing with sinners. Does their presence in the Church reduce, violate, or destroy her sanctity? Not in the least! For her Head—the Lord Christ, and her Soul—the Holy Spirit, and her divine teaching, her mysteries, and her virtues, are indissolubly and immutably holy. The Church tolerates sinners, shelters them, and instructs them, that they may be awakened and roused to repentance and spiritual recovery and transfiguration; but they do not hinder the Church from being holy.http://www.orthodoxinfo.com/general/attributes.aspx

Christina

right. So then, Paul is using symbolic language, is he not?

He is presenting the bride, (which, brides should be virgins) to the Groom. (Christ Jesus.)

This has nothing to do with the virginity or non virginity of an individual in the body of Christ.

Nor can you use this to show that a Virgin is better than a non virgin. Sorry, it isn't washing out.

I was pointing out that the Church which is Pure, is a Virgin. I was also pointing out that the Church is married, yet is a Virgin. The Theotokos was betrothed to Joseph, yet remained a Virgin.

Sorry if you got the idea that I was saying that all of us should be virgins . . . I have reiterated many times in this forum that it is a Gift, and not for everyone. I do hope I have cleared up this confusion.

Nor can you use this to show that a Virgin is better than a non virgin. Sorry, it isn't washing out.

Paul says it, not me.

For I would that all men were even as I myself.

I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, It is good for them if they abide even as I.

But this I say, brethren, the time [is] short: it remaineth, that both they that have wives be as though they had none;

He that is unmarried careth for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please the Lord:

There is difference [also] between a wife and a virgin. The unmarried woman careth for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit: but she that is married careth for the things of the world, how she may please [her] husband.

So then he that giveth [her] in marriage doeth well; but he that giveth [her] not in marriage doeth better

Love,
Christina

So, no, it does not explicitly state that Mary was perfect. But it most certainly implicity says it.

Love,
Christina
The problem with that is of course, Mary wasn't perfect. The only being to trod the earth who was perfect is Jesus Christ.

No she didn't. Mary was married to Joseph and like a good little wife, made love with her husband.

your underlining only shows that you believe a married woman who has sex with her spouse is no longer holy in body.

that's rather sad.

Please then find me Scripture which states that a married woman is physically pure, not spiritually . . . but physically.
