Yes, I do know the acquaintance in question.
No, she was raised in a perfectly loving home with wonderful parents.

I'm glad to hear it. It sounds like some of her other community members failed her.

thank you for showing that there is a balanced medium between Egalitarianism and being a doormat
I am very much against anyone being a doormat.

Ive heard of the complemenatry view but i couldnt articulate it right off the bat.
Basically it is the view that men and women have different but complementary roles and responsibilities in marriage, family life (and life in general) and leadership, and within the church.

I think thats my view personally.

I dont go for egalitarian, although it seems ideal, simply because women are the weaker sex and actually do need a man who is stronger, physically and often mentally and spritually.

I know for my own self that, I appreciate a strong man who can do the heavy lifting. Cos I cant really. My body is not built that way.

I believe that, sadly, what Paul said about marriage has been misconstrued and used as an excuse for legalism and rigidity that God does not burden us with. It's funny how we decide one thing was a cultural thing from long ago that no longer applies, but then this other thing is definitely for today. Wisdom might say, "Well, since we really aren't sure, it's best we don't cast this thing in stone." Interesting website follows, Christians for Biblical Equality: http://www.cbeinternational.org/

Yea Paul was giving advice to the corinthians i think it was. The corinthians!!! Thats like giving godly advice to californians. They desperately needed it cos the women were like loud, strident chatterboxes and the men were sleeping with their mothers in laws. Or something.
