• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

:wave:This step is where the nic. is reduced to 7 mg perday. It's the last step. I haven't smoked in 17 days on the patch and don't feel like it either.
Wow, that's great Ruth. Congratulations on step 3 and not feeling like smoking! love, tapero

Thank you for your encouragement and support. The patch is really an easier way to quit. I tried it cold turkey a few times and couldn't do it. Well, I did quit once for 16 years so I guess I did do it cold turkey once but I had cut down to hardly anything and smoking was making me sick at that time. But this time smoking was not making me nauseas but I believe it was making my BP high. So, I don't want to have a stroke or heart attack or cancer so I figured I'd try the patch and am glad I did. Thank you again!

Congratulations on doing so well! I'm still on step 1, it's been about a month of wearing the patch. After I figured out that I had to remember to take the patch off before bed- otherwise I had terrible nightmares that left me too afraid to go back to sleep.

Did you have the same effect I seem to be having? I still want a cigarette, but not because of the need for nicotine, more because of habit- like, okay, I'm done with dinner, time to step outside...oh, wait. Fortunately, I take package warnings very seriously, and I'm too scared to have a cigarette while I have the patch on, so that keeps me honest.

Hi. I'm glad you are quitting. I, too, get these little ideas at times that it's time for a smoke but then I just think that I am not smoking anymore. I don't get real bad cravings for a smoke, thank God. I think I'm going to go off the patch in a few days when the patches run out. Either that or go one more week. Haven't decided yet. I had some nightmares, too, but most of the time I had good dreams. Only one night was bad so far. I haven't been taking the patch off at night lately but I may tonight to further reduce the nicotine in my system. Sometimes I don't sleep well but not sure if it's the patch or just that I often have had sleep problems anyways. I wish you all the luck in the world with quitting. You are doing good, hanging in there!
