  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Where are they; what are they; how old? Are they scanned in?
Hi there!

I hope that my information is current, but I could be wrong...

The oldest manuscripts of the New Testament are fragments and the earliest is the Madalen Fragment which is dated to 65 AD plus/minus 15 years. It contains a portion of the book of Mark. Manuscripts P45, P46, P66, P72, and P75 are dated before 200 AD, and fragment P52 and manuscripts P45, P66, and P75 contain portions of the Gospel of John. The earliest partial manuscript of the Gospel John is dated within 15-20 years of the time it was written and is witnessed by later manuscripts.

Here's a site for you that should have "comparable" dates to what I provided...

http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/7547/ntmss.html

If you want to see a particular manuscript, put the manuscript numeric in your address line and it should come up.... most manuscripts are online somewhere.

The Dead Sea Scrolls date back to when the Prophets wrote them and placed them in jars, hiding them in the earth.. As was instructed of the prophets in Jeremiah 32:14.

Actually, the DSS date back to when the Qumran complex was crushed by the Roman army and the scrolls, including but by no means limited to biblical works, were left in the caves surrounding the settlement.
