  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have been hearing old wives tales about the moon changes and giving birth. Is it the New Moon, or the Full Moon? I have heard both!

Have any of you heard these? Any other ones you have heard?

I think they are funny and I am sure there is some truth to them, but I haven't places a lot of stock in it.

So, tell me your tales!

Well,
I Hear that alot more women tend to give birth near or closer to the full moon...
I've also been told that if A women ovulates closer to the new moon she will have Boy and if she ovulates closer to the full moon she'll have a girl...

I have heard about this. My girlfriends swears the moon made her spontanously ovulate a second time and that is how she got pregnant with one of her kids. But I don't hold much stock in it. I hoped the moon would make me ovulate earlier, when we TTC, it never worked.

I also have my kids late so I remember more than once looking at the moon when I was walking trying to get labor started and it not working.

Here is an intresting one though 2 of my kids were born when we had a snow or ice storm. The nurses when I went in told me both times that the low pressure front caused all kind of women to go into labor. With the first one it was an ice storm. My dh got so mad beause the doctor decided to send me home till the next morning and when we got home our lights were out because ice had snapped the electric lines near our home. For the secound one I had been going in and out of labor for a couple days, and I really started getting into it about the same time as a snow storm hit. We had to follow a snow plow on interstate to get to the hospital. Luckily I normally have long labors so we had plently of time.

Oh there's so many of them I've seen...
1.) If the heartbeat is above 140 bpm it's a girl, below, a boy.
2.) If you tie a needle to a thread and hold it next to your stomach and it goes in circles it's a boy, side-to-side, a girl.
3.) If you like to eat the heel of bread better than a part of the inner loaf, you're having a boy.

There's countless others... none of which have any scholarly merit.

The full moon thing Is scientifically documented. More women go into labor on the full moon than any other time of the month. It has to do with the changing of the tides and the mother's water.

I used to have my period on the full moon & ovulate on the new moon Every month, even inbetween my kids. After a couple of the kids it switched and I'd ovulate on the full moon & start my period on the new moon. With most of my kids I went into labor on the full moon (and one time when a thunderstorm hit out of no where).

Atmospheric conditions can & do play a part in these things... but not always. In a normal healthy pregnancy, if the baby isn't ready, the body won't go into labor no matter what you do or what time of the month it is. lol

My great-aunt was CONVINCED that my son was born with the cord around his neck because I reached over my head while I was pregnant. (I'm not sure how else I was supposed to get a glass out of the cupboard!)

She also told me that baby swings could hypnotize our German Shepherd into attacking the baby.

She passes along every weird thing she reads or hears, and I just smile, nod, and don't pay much attention, LOL!

It is funny the stuff people will tell pregnant women!
