Hot water evaporates, leaving less water to freeze. So hot water does not freeze faster, at best, less water freezes faster, something we all know already.

I say "at best" because I tried it and the cold water froze faster.

Give it a try.

Look, if scientifically investigated and trying to correct for other factors, hot water systems can be cooled faster than cold ones. I don't understand why and Science itself is still trying to figure it out. Regardless, this is not a superstition.

Nonequilibrium thermodynamics of the Markovian Mpemba effect and its inverse

I have tried it with home-made ice cream and jelly, and it does work.

Have you tried it with actual water?
No. But I trust the peer-reviewed scientific articles trying to explain why this is the case. I don't see why they would try and explain something which does not occur. Similarly, Aristotle and Bacon reported the same phenomenon. I haven't tried it myself, but I see no need to. It would be far more difficult to control my own attempts for bias and other factors and such, so is superfluous at best.

Holding a ring on a string over a pregnant belly to see if it's a boy or girl.

Ha, this is the one I thought of, but my mother always just used a needle and string. It was always right, too, even when the ultrasound disagreed - my mother's prediction showed the string won when the baby was born. People always asked her to do this when they were pregnant and she was around, it's....weird but accurate. Her odd psychic ability that pops up in dreams sometimes could explain this too, to sound even weirder.

How about a lucky horseshoes? How are you supposed to hang them? I think it was pointing upwards to draw the bad luck away? :]
I got a bible the other day that given to the ministry to hand out to someone who needs one, When I opened it, It had dried four leaf clovers inside it. LOL

In some areas of the country you will see many red barns with a large white star painted on each gable end. This sometimes extends to residences as well. I even notice that people sometimes adorn their homes with decorative stars. All this harks back to the days when witchcraft and the evil eye were greatly feared. The stars were believed to ward off the evil eye.

I used to believe Friday 13th. No idea where that superstition started. But I feared it. One day something bad did happen..I lost a hat. I then realised a few years later that the mind can trick you. It’s rubbish

There is this stupid one you est crusts of bread your hair gets curly or if you go outside in the rain you’ll get sick....something like that. The black cat thing creeped me out for years. The umbrella in the house one too..which still makes me feel a little uneasy. No idea why! Guess it still is some sort of belief inside me still despite I think it’s rubbish.

Or there is that one from childhood “you step on a crack, you marry a rat” (that is what they said over here) if you stepped on the cracks of pavement. To this day I am kind of wary of cracks and I don’t know why. Not just because of tripping...

Crossing your fingers behind your back for luck or when lying or something...

Breaking mirror seven years bad luck..walking under ladder

Yes, we have a pool and this is something we try to remember...
They said it was to do with drowning or something. Wait 20 mins then go into water I don’t know if it is true. I read an article about it and they said it isn’t ..but being full in water might cause people problems maybe? :/
