  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi Everyone,

I would like to start a discussion of the Old Covenant / New Covenant relationships. While fullfilling the Old, Jesus gave us a New Covenant.

For instance, during Passover, the sacrificial flock was led into the Temple for inspection by the Temple Priests. The lambs were supposed to be spotless for the sacrifice. This is the same day that Jesus, the Lamb of God rode into Jerusalem on a donkey.  As the Priests were examining the lambs, Pilate was examining Jesus. "I find no crime in Him", said Pilate.

Under the Old Covenant, at Passover, the blood of the lambs was put on the doorposts so the angel of death would pass over the household. Under the New Covenant, at the Passover meal, Jesus tells the Apostles: "This cup which is poured out for you is the new covenant in My blood", and "Drink of it, all of you, for this is my blood of the covenant which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins".

Finally, the Lamb of God is sacrificed at the same hour that the lambs were slaughtered in the Temple.

I would like to discuss this and any other Old/New Covenant relationships and fullfillments.

Yours in Chirst,
Edward

P.S. If you would like to get an idea of what the Passover is all about from a Jewish view then check out the link below. If anyone has any idea of what the Passover Meal (Last Supper) was like for Jesus compared to this, that would be great. I'm not sure if it has changed or if it has remained the same through the ages.

Also, if you read into the different cups (especially the description in 1 Cor), it follows a Passover meal exactly.

On another note, when the wine-soaked rag was lifted up to Him on the cross, it was a hissop stick - which is traditional to passover meals.

Also, in passover meals, they speak in the present tense, and go back to the first Passover. At mass, the priest speaks in present tense, and we enjoin with the Last Supper.

And lastly, when Christ says "It is finished" on the cross, He is referring to the Passover meal. Notice He only says this AFTER He has drank of that last wine. IT doesnt refer to the full fullfillment because that included the Resurrection. This is actually one of the reasons that Scott Hahn converted - his pastor cited It is finished, but said that there was no explanation of it. He dove in, and found the real presence of Christ!
