  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Ok, so a new hypothetical.

Ok, so you and a kid are in a room. Now, you are given three choices, the if, ands and whats are taken care of, there is no alternative. No choosing to do nothing, no saying it is someone elses fault. The hypothetical hypothetical is set up such that these things are not allowed. So, your choices are kill the child, kill yourself, or rape the child.

So, my question is this, do you find this hypothetical more offensive than the previous ones because it involves the concept of rape and not just killing? If so, is this because rape is worse than killing?

P.S. I don't actually expect anyone to answer the hypothetical, this is a thread about your immediate and longer term reactions to said hypothetical.

Did you post this in the right area?
Cause I have no idea what you are talking about and you need a
real link to a news story to post in this forum.

No, no I didn't post it in the right area...

If a mod would kindly move this over to ethics and morality please.

Why would I be offended by a hypothetical?

Quite like the "plane crash" hypothetical, nobody can honestly answer this question, except with what they HOPE they would do.
Unless, of course, anyone has actually BEEN through this situation, which I seriously doubt.
Highly improbable hypothetical moral situations generally cannot be answered with absolute honesty, only what we would HOPE we would do.
And the OP in incomplete, to boot.

And no, I don't find it more/less offensive based on a hypothetical "rape" scenario. Of course, the OP is incomplete (method of death is omitted, for example, plus other parameters).
The omissions are what make these "moral quandaries" incomplete.
Not to mention pointless, as I don't think any of us have actually FACED these very quandaries.

You are over analyzing what I was asking. I was just asking if the including some form of rape is found to be more offensive than death. You see, we see death in media so often, so someone using it doesn't seem to get the same reaction as someone using rape which is far rarer and on average treated far more serious, or so I would think, so I asked this.
