Just pondering the idea that some focus too much energy on Satan and demons.

I was looking thru the scriptures and noticed that Satan and demons are actually mentioned very little until Revelation.

I am wondering why the bible mentions these beings so little and why we seem to focus on them so much.

Is there a reason for this???

demons are spoken of a lot in matthew mark luke and john. I dunno what ur talking about, demons are mentioned a ton in teh bible. http://www.demonpossession.com/versesdemons.html take a look at that link...
by comparison, which is talked about more, demons or the gospel and its message?

So in the same manner, why spend so much time discussing something that ISNT covered nearly as much as the gospel in the bible.

Arent we suppose to be living by example?

Are you more concerned with demons or the Gospel of Christ?

This section has every verse in the bible that speaks directly of "Demonic Spirits". You will find them as follows:
Demons 82 times
Unclean Spirit 24 times
Evil Spirit 6 times
Lying Spirit 4 times
Deaf and Dumb Spirit 1 time
Deceiving Spirit 1 time
Spirit of Ill Will 1 time
Distressing Spirit 6 times
Spirit of Jealousy 2 times
Spirit of Harlotry 2 times
False Spirit 1 time

Jesus himself commanded all his agents, to "drive out demons' over and over it IS something WE are supposed to do.

Think about that one.

There are different levels of demons. Jesus and God are big but if you dont know what your meissing with and what clusters they are you dont have a prayer unless God made you superman! Demons fight back and Satan will eat you for breakfast. Its necessary to study the Lord and be familar with your enemy

Matthew 4:10 Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Woship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’

Mark 4:15 Some people are like seed along the path, where the word is sown. As soon as they hear it, Satan comes and takes away the word that was sown in them.

Mark 8:33 But when Jesus turned and looked at his disciples, he rebuked Peter. “Get behind me, Satan! he said. “You do not have in mind the things of God, by the things of men.”

Luke 10:3 Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves.

Luke 10:17 The seventy-two returned with joy and said, “Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name.” 18 He replied, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. 19. I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all
the power of the enemy: nothing will harm you. However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”

Romans 16:20 The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you.

2 Corinthians 11:13 For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, masquerading as apostles of Christ. 14 And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. 15. It is not surprising, then, if his servants masquerade as sevants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve.

2 Corinthians 12:7 To keep me from becoming conceited because of these surpassingly great revelations, there was given me a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. 8 Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. 9 But he said to
me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weakness, so Christ’s power may rest on me. 10 This is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weakness, in insults, in hardships, in presecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak,
then I am strong.

2 Thessalonians 2:8 And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will overthrow with the breath of his mouth and destroy by the splendor of his coming. 9 The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with the work of Satan
displayed in all kinds of counterfeit miracles, signs and
wonders, 10and in every sort of evil that deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.

These are just a FEW scriptures on satan and his demons...I am going to post this quickly before the thread gets locked but plan on replying.

God bless

You are right in this is just PART of the gospel and people shouldn't be oppessed with it...it shouldn't become more important then the rest of the bible. But if you have truly studied the bible from beginning to end you will see satan all through the bible. He is called different names, just as Christ is too.

We see satan in Genesis tempting Eve...we see satan in Job allowed to torment Job and try to turn him from God, we even see many stories in the OT of God USING satan to His own means. We read about satan's fall from Heaven. Satan is probably mentioned in every single book in the bible.

When Jesus was here, He was constantly casting out demons, He was tempted by satan in the desert and the list just goes on and on, so I don't see how you can say satan is barely mentioned until Revelations.

He is called the Father of Lies, the Lawless One, the Dragon, the Seprent, Luficer, The Morning Star (not sure about that one) and on and on...

In the book of Ephesians chapter six quiet a bit is taught to us their about how to PROTECT ourselves from satan's attacks. Putting on the full armor of God...something we are do to everyday.

We don't need to be jumping at shadow by any means...satan has already been defeated by Jesus, so all we have to do is call on Jesus Name and satan flees. (in fact there is scripture saying to resistance satan and he will flee...of course for so many Christians they have no clue there is anything TO resistence..:()

Jesus taught quiet a bit also about satan and was even accussed at one point of using powers from satan to work His mircles.

Your comment just almost makes me wonder how much of the bible you have actually read.

I was not taught spirtual warfare in my church...so many act like satan isn't even real anymore...I read once the greatest trick satan ever did was make people believe he wasn't real! If you don't believe he is...you do nothing and are a sitting duck...so to speak.

But yes this is just ONE of the many things Christ wants us to be concerned with. I have not spent anymore time studying this then I have others parts of the bible. I am so glad I was lead to learn about it though, because it has helped my son so very very much.

Anyway I hope this helps you understand better...oh I wanted to post this scriptures:

Ephesians 6

10 A final word: Be strong with the Lord’s might power. 11 Put on
all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against
all strategies and ticks of the Devil.

12 For we are not fighting against people made of flesh and blood, but against the evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against those mighty powers of darkness who rule this world, and against wicked
spirits in the heavenly realms.

13 Use every piece of God’s armor to resist the enemy in the time
of evil, so that after the battle you will stil be standing firm.

14 Stand your ground, putting on the sturdy belt of truth and
body armor of God’s righteousness. 15 For shoes, put on the peace
that comes from the Good News, so that you wil be fully prepared.
16 In every battle you will need faith as your shield to stop the
fiery arrows aimed at you by Satan.

17 Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 Pray at all times and on every occasion in the power of the Holy Spirit. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all Christians everywhere.

Also if you are interested, I listened to this radio program today that was aired on a Christian radio station and you can listen to it on line if you want.

Leading the way by Dr. Michael Youssef http://www.leadingtheway.org/

Who Is Your Enemy
Part 2
Satan wants you… to put yourself first. But don’t listen to him—it’s a trick! Today on “Leading the Way,” Michael Youssef exposes Satan’s deception. With an eye-opening look at the dangers of pride

Find a radio station

I listen to many different preacher on this radio station everyday and you would probably be surprised how much satan and spirtual warfare comes up. Even in church many times we hear the preacher saying something about the temptation of satan and to beware of them and so on...though too many preachers fall short and don't excatly tell anyone what to do. :(

Did you know porn is a HUGE problem in the Christian community right now? Its just terrible...even preachers and other church leaders are becoming addicted to porn. Its breaking up marriages, causes the addict to lie and unable to break free of it. Even on this message borad and others you will find post from Christians asking for help...:(

This is just ONE of the traps satan sets for people too...one of many. This is talked about on the Christian radio station alot...each one of them has their own website and Dr. Dobson has quiet a bit about porn addiction and how these people can get help. Its harder for a preacher because he cannot just go talk to people about his problem and then can't get the help he needs.

This IS spiritual warfare going on! Just turn on the news...read the many posts on this board, you see it everywhere. Satan cannot make us do anything, but he sure can put the temptation in our minds...plus this world is satan's world...he was thrown down to earth and runs this place...why do you think Jesus says we live in the world but are NOT to be OF the world.

You can't turn the TV on without seeing half naked people..music videos are now called 'soft porn', and people of the same sex kissing each other, not too mention the cussing going on. If Jesus were running this world, there would be no such thing as this....no drugs, no war, no killing, no stealing...

someday He will run this world and satan will be gone. But for now we need to know and understand and stand strong.

night.

God bless

Funny you should ask. Tried this once. Long story, anyway, I'm a newer Christian, and the demon didn't want to come out, I got scared, I got creamed by this one, and lost.

Demons are real. Jesus knew this, that is why he, over and over, told us to cast them out....

First off, please dont think i am down playing demonic activity. I am not.
At my weakest point with my disease, I learned first hand what demons desire to do to us.

It just seems that each time I see a preoccupation with demons, I see what almost seems to be hateful behavior from the christians who spend their time consumed with demons.

This cannot be coindedence as it has happened to often.

What I have read in the NT seems to me to be saying that there may be a case where we cross a demon possessed person and that at that point I know I could do so, but I see none that show that I am to go out everyday of my life looking to perform an exorcism of sorts.
I see no scripture that shows that any of us are to be comsumed with the simple task of casting out demons.

Maybe the previous poster was correct and SOME cast out demons, Im not sure.

All I do know, is I have personally witnessed a connection between hateful, nasty Christians who attack and call names and the seeming obsession with demons.

I'll leave this thread with that.

Bless all you guys.

I am sorry you are in pain Follower in Christ, :( I had not been around very many people that do alot of this 'casting out demons' so I don't know if they have a hateful air about them or not actually. But I do agree with you that we should not be oppessed with this. This is afterall, only ONE thing our Lord Jesus instructed us to do.

I think the number one thing in our life should be spreading the Good News about Jesus. :)
