• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi,

These are some troubles I've had lately with OCD. I've got into the habit of thinking that if I forget or doubt God then I can't be sure I really believe in him. I often can't stop thinking about the 3 sixes. Also I often feel that if I don't become a monk and give 100% of my time to God then I'm rejecting him. It is really bothering me. Can anyone help?

Thanks

I'm really sorry to hear about your problem mate. I used to and still have a bit of Mental OCD as well (about different things though). It was a bit bad but i've gotten over it quite a bit eversince coming to these forums. One thing i think might help is this: when ever a thought like that pops into my head i just have to think, this is just my OCD talking, i can't help these thoughts that pop into my head, all i know is that i don't want to think about this and God will know that.

Another thing that also helps me is reading other posts, seeing all the compastion everyone posts, i'm sorry but i can't really explain this clearly but i advise you to try it, it might make you feel better.

Sounds like you have already identified the fact that you battle OCD. So I feel like I can just go ahead and say that what you are describing sounds like classic religious OCD. Like angryscorch above told you, sometimes we do need to just identify that it IS our OCD talking to us and move on. You may also need to consider actively treating your OCD if your or not...which may mean counseling and/or meds.:prayer::hug:
