• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi,

I'm sure some of you know me from posting on here about the severe religious OCD I have. For those of you who don't know I have been struggling with religious OCD for many years that seems to be getting progressively worse.

I just want to share something with you all that is really odd, good and peculiar from today. I take the vitamin supplement biotin normally at 5,000 mcg daily for my hair. It never relieved any of my OCD symptoms or anything and I wasn't taking it for OCD. I was reading online that you can up the dose, so I decided to take another capsule later in the evening so this way my body wouldn't be overwhelmed by so much biotin at once and flush out the rest. I cannot believe it. Since a little bit after taking it, I have been sitting here for some time right now, and I have been clear headed, mentally calm with only a small amount blasphemous intrusive thoughts. I am really in shock. Normally, they are hitting me left and right; but right now, my brain feels so calm, and so quiet. (I have an estimated 30 - 100 intrusive thoughts daily); granted I only have had the extra biotin in my system for a little while tonight, but I notice a huge reduction in anxiety and intrusive thoughts overall, to the point where it's so starkly different from what I typically experience, that I wanted to write about it. I am going to watch it and see how it goes, but I just wanted to share this. If this continues, I am going to take two capsules a day. I just wanted to share with you all. I am not suggesting that anybody go out and take two 5,000 mcg capsules of biotin a day. I have met some people who cannot handle even 5,000 mcg a dose, and have had unwanted side effects. From what I have read, little toxic effects are shown from taking a higher than normal amount of biotin, but that does not mean it may be safe or healthy for some people. I would suggest if you are going to try it to check with your doctor to see if it is safe for you to even take first, and if it is gradually increasing your dose. I cannot believe this is the effect taking an extra biotin capsule tonight is having on me. I just wanted to share. God bless.

I have been suffering with OCD religion since early this year. It hit me hard out of nowhere. For me I think it was a sign from God that I had to change my ways. I have, but the OCD has not. I do suffer also with hoarding, facial hair pulling, avoiding cracks in sidewalks. I went to a Christian therapist for a few months and it only helped temporarily. I started taking 5htp a few weeks ago 100mg. twice a day,and Passion flower 350mg. Also twice a day. It seemed to have helped. I pray and talk to Jesus a lot during my day. I go to bed saying thank you, and if this is the cross you want me to bear then let it be your will. God bless to the rest who suffer. Keep the faith.
