• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I said out loud in all seriousness if I make this shot I get my soul back (I thought I had sold my soul) if I miss I will sell my soul and it will count as the unpardonable sin. I missed and now I'm extremely terrified I can't be forgiven can anyone help me or is it possible that I did the unpardonable sin by saying it to the devil and God.

As far as I understand it, our soul isn't ours to buy and sell. Once we get saved, God owns it, methinks. And if you haven't been saved, well--you said that you said what you did 'in all seriousness', but now you're really worried about it, right? But if you HAD been serious, you probably wouldn't be worried about it, which probably means you weren't serious at all. This verse helps me: 1 John 3:20, 'If our hearts condemn us, God is greater than our hearts, and He knows everything.' God knew you didn't REALLY mean what you said because, again, if you had meant it, you wouldn't be worried about it now.

I recommend this website about the unforgivable sin to everyone who suffers from this fear.
Please take a look, it's so helpful:
http://www.net-burst.net/guilty/scrupulosity.htm

Regarding what you did/said, OCD is a strange illness. I've heard of people who are so tormented by the idea of the unforgivable sin that they have forced themselves to say blasphemous things in a bid to try and stop the vile thoughts. I myself have nearly said vile things then freaked out that I might have actually said it without realizing.
I went through a stage of fearing I'd made 'vows' regarding my salvation, sometimes I'd even make myself think good vows in an effort to try and cancel out any bad vows I might accidentally think/say later on.
It was a horrible time and I hated myself for making myself think things that I didn't want to think. I couldn't understand why I was doing this to myself but sadly mental illness isn't logical.
You know what helped me get over this fear? The realization that my salvation isn't something I can 'vow' away because I am already saved! It is done.
These 'vows' were nothing but nonsense generated by fear, anxiety and mental illness. They were not valid. I know this because the bible says that 'nothing' can separate me from the love of God.

I believe the same could be said for you.
I don't think the unforgivable sin is just about what someone says/does, I believe it is more about the heart behind the words. If you were as hard-hearted as someone who has committed the unforgivable sin then I don't think you'd be posting here.
Take heart from that and please stop worrying. :)
