  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Today at 01:13 PM My Higher Self said this in Post #2

It'll be just like Japan. We'll spend billions of dollars destroying them, and then billions and billions more rebuilding them.

Except that Japan was an industrial superpower prior to the war, so all the US had to do was fix the things that had been destroyed.

In Iraq the US will have to do that and institute fundamental changes in the way the nation is run in order to get any sort of prosperity out of it. It's the same problem as in Afghanistan, and right now America's support is lacking to that nation.

An industrial super power? Is that why they were buying up scrap wood anywhere they could get it to build Zeros with?

You're too young to remember this but prior to late 60's or so (when Honda created a market in the US for 305 cc and 350 cc motorcycles)
when something was a real piece of junk, "made in Japan" was a common reaction. Prior to transistor radios (Sony) the most common import from Japan was cheap tin toys.
Hardly indicative of being any "industrial super power" - sounds like that came right out of a Marxist textbook.

strathboy,
In australia we labelled anything made in Japan as "Jap ****". Now that has changed and it was Taiwan that was sending us the junk. Now the junk all comes from China.

I dont know about Marxist textbooks a nd I would be surpised because I never saw Japan as a marxist country. What a lot of people dont realise is that well before the second world war (1931 I think it was) Japan invaded, sucessfully, China. Japan were then sanctioned and felt they were forced into attacking the USA to free them from the sanctions. They were a world power before the second world war, whether they were an industrial super power I dont know.

When you back an animal into a corner it will attack..... as the psychotic leaders of this world are backed into corners they do the same.............

Maybe we should stop backing these people into corners.......
