  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

"The Barack Obama we've been seeing lately is a different personality than the one that made a miracle run to the White House in 2008.

Obama.2008 was engaging, patient, open, optimistic and a self-identified conciliator.

Obama.2011 has been something else—testy, petulant, impatient, arrogant and increasingly a divider."

Of course, this editorial article from the Wall Street Journal does not do very much to change my opinion.....

I never liked O from the start............

As a Democrat, I will readily admit that the Barack Obama I voted into office in 2008 is not the same person today. It's true, he is more arrogant, cocky, and a bit belligerent sometimes. I think that he needs to take council from more experienced political leaders before getting so hot headed in public. Not only does it make him look like he has a temper that is not fair and partial to all sides of the argument, but it also looks like he's been covering up who he is for a while. While I still don't know who I'm voting for next November, my likability of Obama has tanked a bit.

He was that arrogant, cockey and belligerent before he was in office.

The media just didn't report it -- except when forced to.

I've never seen the media fawn so over truly divisive people as much as they did in 2008. Both Carter & Clinton had reasonable conversations with the right. But that didn't hold a candle to Obama/Reid/Pelosi.

I don't think he was beforehand - he wasn't president then. But his current attitude pretty much sucks.

I hate to make this tired comparison, but people said the same things about Bush when he was in office. And people defended him saying those are leadership qualities or what have you.

Arrogant = Confident
Cocky = Self Assured
Belligerent = Tough

The last President we had with what I would call a good demeanor would be Reagan.

That said, I give Obama about a C grade. He has a got a lot done but could have done more and done much better a few things he has done.

Hi Tim,

I would imagine that if you review the historical accounts of most all the presidents you will find that they often have changing views and attitudes. It's a tough job and you will never please everybody. It's a thankless job and doesn't pay nearly what the demands of time are worth. All first term presidents have this 'pie-in-the-sky' view of what the presidency will be like. They all have dreams and goals that they think they are going to accomplish that will make life better for the populace. Sadly, after a couple of years in office the dreams and goals are shattered and the daily demands of time in a job in which you are never 'off-screen' so to speak, would cause just about anyone to regret that they had ever taken on the challenge.

However, faithful men with lofty ideals continue to seek the position and think that they are up to the challenge and the country continues to keep rolling along. Some good decisions and some bad are in every presidency. Especially in these days of instant communication.

It's a really rough and tough job and quite frankly my hat's off to any man who would take up the challenge. Keep in mind that every single issue that you have that you think he did wrong, there's a person on the other side of the street that thinks he did very well on that same issue. So, here's the question. Did he do poorly or is one or the other of the perceptions skewed?

Keep in mind also that a lot of what finally gets through is not what was originally intended. Take the healthcare issue as a case in point. Obama wanted to make healthcare available and affordable to all. Personally, I thought he started out with a fairly good idea, but then the legislature got involved and all the bickering and arguing and quid pro quo and I'll scratch your back you scratch mine got involved and we got a healthcare system that's a real nightmare and doesn't help the people that the initial goal was meant to help. All that is just to say, then you hear everybody screaming that Obama's healthcare is all messed up, but it's not his healthcare plan. It's not even close to what he was seeking when he first set the legislature to work out a comprehensive healthcare plan. What we have now is just a watered down poorly worked and incompletely thought out governmental program that is the baby of the legislature, not Obama.

You'd probably be surprised, if you've spent any time following various attempts to work good ideas through the legislature, how messed up our system of government is when good people try to do good things.

God bless you.

Hey Tim,

After actually reading the article I can say this. If you go back 4 years ago you'll find just the exact same kinds of articles saying pretty much the same thing about Bush. If you go back 12 years ago you'll find pretty much the same kinds of articles saying pretty much the same thing about ole' Wille. Oh, do I remember all the drivel that was printed about his 'sexcapades' and everyone asking, "How in the world did we get this guy for a president?" And gosh, gee even the Iranians were doing their best to get Carter out of office.

Like I say. It's a tough job and you're not going to be satisfied with all or maybe even any of what he does as a president, but at least be fair and understand that in every presidency you can find a writer somewhere that agrees with the way you think the government can be run. For me, I respect the office of the presidency no matter who is in there, but I trust God to see to it that whoever it is won't destroy us..............yet.

God bless you.

"Let's be sure we're praying for this guy as much as we are criticizing him."

I am praying for him to lose in 2012............

I hope you can find some peace through this~it appears you have a fixated obsession over the current God-placed (Rom 13) leader of this nation by the constant "Obama" threads you create. Look over your New Testament again; note that the apostles had a far more evil ruler than the current president (or any president in US history) yet they weren't overcome with vitriol and bitterness but rather were ruled joy, faith, hope and love in the presence of hardship and suffering:pray:

Hi Tim,

Well, there's always the option that you could run for a legislative or higher position and get a chance to run the nation as you see fit. It's always a lot easier to play football, baseball, horse racing and government from an easy chair.

God bless you.
