  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Between Obama and McCain, I have a strong preference for Bob Barr (the Libertarian Party nominee), no surprise I guess since I'm sporting an LP icon. Unfortunately, he has no chance to win and may not even be on the ballot in my state.

I like Obama better as a person, but I dislike McCain less on the issues. I'll keep a close eye on the campaign, and choose my lesser evil. Probably that'll be McCain, but it's not a done deal.

No nation would have our interests in mind above theirs. It is pretty simple
So putting your own country first is the same thing as wanting to put another country back to the stone age? Are you actually paying attention to the absurd things you're saying?

America is big and powerful. Europe hates us for it- so do the Arabs and Soviets.

This statement reminds me of the old shampoo commercial which began with a model saying, "Don't hate me because I'm beautiful."

I used to see that on TV and think, "Believe me, that's not why I hate you."

The US is not hated because it is big and powerful. It is hated because of the way it has worn its size and wielded its power. There is a long history of foreign policy that has led to enmity with some parts of the world. And the current administration with its bully boy tactics and neo-con imperialism has created a great deal of ill-will in the world and alienated some of our best allies.

To say "They hate us because we're big and powerful" is an oversimplification at best.
