  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Nunes: Fine, the FBI Didn’t Lie, But Its Font Was Too Small
The central, and most damaging, accusation in the memo published Friday by House Republicans is that the FBI failed to disclose the bias of one of its sources when it applied to wiretap Carter Page. “Neither the initial application in October 2016, nor any of the renewals, disclose or reference the role of the DNC, Clinton campaign, or any party/campaign in funding [British agent Christopher] Steele’s efforts, even though the political origins of the Steele dossier were then known to senior and FBI officials,” charged the memo. That was hardly explosive, or the kind of damning failure that would send people to prison or be worse than Watergate, as Trump defenders charged. But it was something. If true.

It’s not true....

I would speculate that the FISA judge would have asked what the footnote was referring to.

I think it's interesting that they want to make sure that the people know that the dossier was for paid for by the Dems.....but the fail to mention that the dossier was the brain child of billionaire, Republican Paul Singer, a supporter of Rubio, and that he paid Fusion GPS for it until the primaries.

I'm confused. They released the FISA warrant?

I always understood it that way. They started things during the primaries, and after Trump won that? The Dem's picked it up where they left off, and continued.

Not to the public. But it has been established that there was a footnote on the FISA warrant request application that said the request was partially based on a political source of information.

So glad the judge and jury has spoken. Except the memo represents 15% of full disclosure.
...and they only released the most mild and tepid portions? They're saving the most damaging portions for later? I'm not sure that's how these things are done. :sorry:

The FBI and other agencies have gotten into a bad
habit of not turning over anything until they are
under threat of being fired or going to prison, and
then, they try to release the facts as slowly and
in as small quantities as they can.

Somebody needs to do a thorough house cleaning
and fire the leaders of every bureaucratic agency.
Actually, any bureaucrat who has been in DC longer
than 15 years needs to go. Same with politicians.

wow...does this remind anyone else of that old 1960's expression "Never trust anyone over 30."? Maybe I'm just old...but it seems to me you kind of need both the new AND the old in order to not have to reinvent the wheel every time new people get elected.

This type of cleaning doesn't have to happen often. Right now
they need it because the bureaus have become too politicized.

It wasn't the brainchild of Singer. That's confusing what happened. Singer paid for intel on all of the candidates. After the primary, the Dems wanted a dossier on Trump, and so Steele used what he had gathered during the primary as the foundation for the dossier, and this did not include most of the outrageous claims. It's like saying a sequel to a movie or book is the same thing as the original.

OK. Let me word that differently. Singer hired Fusion to get info. on the other Republican candidates that were running against Rubio. Fusiion contacted the Dems. to see if they would pay to get info. on Trump. The info. that they had gathered on Trump before the primaries was used to begin the building of the dossier. All the dossier is, is a collection of information that can written in report form.
That word dossier gives it this cloak and dagger feel.

I know what a dossier is. I use report and dossier to separate which one I'm talking about.:doh1:

And pretty much nothing from the dossier proper was from the initial report. That's why the whole "A republican was the person who started it" is pretty much a sham excuse.

When I respond to a post I may include info., such as the above, even if I believe the person I am responding to already knows. That is because of the people who may be reading the post and do not know.

Washington Free Beacon Statement On Fusion GPS and the Trump Dossier

All of the work that Fusion GPS provided to the Free Beacon was based on public sources, and none of the work product that the Free Beacon received appears in the Steele dossier. The Free Beacon had no knowledge of or connection to the Steele dossier, did not pay for the dossier, and never had contact with, knowledge of, or provided payment for any work performed by Christopher Steele. Nor did we have any knowledge of the relationship between Fusion GPS and the Democratic National Committee, Perkins Coie, and the Clinton campaign.

Well then, that appears to be very clear. :)
