Nothing But the Blood
Friday, January 12, 2007, 12:41 a.m.
Wednesday, Jan. 11, 10:37 p.m. - I took a nap this afternoon for an hour, between 3:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., and then I woke out of a dream. All I remember is that I was walking over to the door to turn the dead-bolt lock to lock the door when all of a sudden someone from the other side of the door pushed it open, keeping me from locking it. I looked, and there stood a young boy, a child, with an open umbrella in his hand, only he was holding it open in front of him as though it were a shield and I had the feeling he had a weapon underneath it that he intended to use. There was a sense of evil coming from the other side of the door, yet I was not afraid. He just stood there and so did I and neither of us said a word. Then, I woke up.
I inquired of the Lord as to the nature of this dream, and this is what he said:
For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, qvb://0/anchor/15in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins (Col. 1:13-14).
That reminded me of a conversation I had with Faith earlier in the day. She told me that an old hymn, Nothing But the Blood had been going through her head over and over again for three days now and she wondered why.
What can wash away my sin?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
What can make me whole again?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
Oh, precious is the flow
That makes me white as snow;
No other fount I know,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
Then my mind went back to what I was praying about this morning in relation to the Presidents speech and the phone call from CWFA at 9:11 a.m. I was reading in Acts about the stoning of Stephen and how Saul/Paul was standing there giving approval to it all and then how God used Saul/Paul eventually as his chosen instrument to spread the gospel to the Gentiles. To me, that was such a picture of Gods saving grace.
So, I recapped the things I was praying about
Then, I read further in Col. 1:15-23:
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. qvb://0/anchor/1716For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. qvb://0/anchor/1817He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. qvb://0/anchor/1918And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. qvb://0/anchor/2019For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, qvb://0/anchor/2120and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.
qvb://0/anchor/2221Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. qvb://0/anchor/2322But now he has reconciled you by Christs physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusationqvb://0/anchor/2423if you continue in your faith, established and firm, not moved from the hope held out in the gospel. This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant.
I realized as I read these passages of scripture that God was answering all three of my questions. The first part of this passage answered the question about our president, I believe. The Lord is saying that he created ALL things all powers and authorities and rulers and that they were created FOR him. He is before all things and in him all things hold together. Basically, he is supreme. So, that means that President Bush is Gods man for this job for this time no matter the outcome, because God establishes all thrones. Nothing is happening that is not of God and that God does not have an ultimate purpose in it.
Secondly he was showing me that he was the child in the dream - the firstborn from among the dead - who has rescued us he pushed it [the door] open - from the dominion of darkness - the other side of the door - and has brought us into the Kingdom of the Son he loves. Once we were enemies in our minds I had the feeling he had a weapon but now he has reconciled us by making peace through his blood Nothing but the blood of Jesus IF we continue in our faith Faith had the hymn go over and over in her mind established and firm, not moved He just stood there and so did I from the hope held out in the gospel holding it open in front of him as though it were a shield Faith!
Application: So, what I get out of this is that God has a purpose in all things and he will accomplish his purposes through his chosen instruments. So, no matter what happens or what goes down, we should know that it would not happen except that God allowed it and that God has a purpose in it, and we need to trust in HIM. I think the second part of this actually goes along with the first, because I believe things are going to happen that might have the chance to shake our faith, and this is an encouragement, I believe, to continue in our faith, established and firm, not moved from the hope held out in the gospel. In other words, we should not put our faith in man to save us, because man may disappoint us, but our faith should be in the one whose blood has cleansed us from all our sins Nothing But the Blood of Jesus!
