The Democratic Party of the 19th century was heavily conservative. The KKK was a Southern conservative reaction to Reconstruction imposed by Radical Republicans (radical liberals) from the North. Sense then, the Democratic Party has thoroughly embraced equality, democracy, and universalism.</p></blockquote><p></p>
