• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

    If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

    If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. I wonder if this is why I'm so vulnerable to being sick alot.

No one knows and I HOPE people I know don't read this..

I feel OK doing it because if I did it on someone else, it would be illegal... right? I want to stop, because it isn't safe.. but then again I have no where else to go..?

I'm sorry we took so long to validate this! It was a bit too detailed, so it kept getting overlooked, but I finally got internet in my apartment, and here it is!

Anyway, yes, other ways are not uncommon, though we keep details out of the forum because it's very easy for somebody to inadvertently pick up new ways of self harm!

Cutting is popular these days -- not that people do it to be popular (not the vast majority anyway) but just that it's so big in our culture (music especially) that people who are hurting often try it out and get addicted. It's not uncommon for people to have other ways though.

And none of them is less harmful than any other. The thing is that it's a bad coping mechanism -- a negative release that creates its own downward spiral. You should definately look for an adult that you can trust to share some of your hurting with. Even if you can't share the physical harm at first, you need to get it out to someone you can trust, and eventually to a professional who can truly help you get out.
