Mat 7:1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.
so I've herd this verse quoted the most on these forums and on any in general. Whenever someone is talking about someone else in ANY bad way people always have to say, watch out! it says not to judge! so I was wondering in what sense should we not be judging? I herd someone say how someone works in the church but isnt really a christian at all... then someone comes in saying dont judge... how is that judging if the person really isnt a christian. thats not judging thats stating facts. So ive been wondering, what is judging the right way and whats judging the wong way?

Take the verse in context.

Jesus in the same passage also told us not to cast our pearls to swine. Now how do you know who is a swine if you don't exercise some judgment?

The point is this: how do you really know what goes on inside that person?
how do you really know he hasn't been saved?
how do you know what God thinks of him?
how much do you know of his sins or repentance?

We're very eager to point out someone who is doing an obvious sin, but when it comes to an "internal" sin we're silent. In God's eyes these sins are equally bad. In our eyes the obvious sin is worse.

You left out St Matthew 7:2 One and two go together

1"Do not judge, so that you may not be judged.
2 For with the judgment you make you will be judged,
and the measure you give will be the measure you get.

This is a commandment with a promise.

When Jesus asked us not to judge he meant good or bad. Look how many people judged those big
three or four evangelist that fell as good preachers before they fell and as bad preachers after they fell.

Judging is trudging and decerning is learning.

How people dress, talk, act, drive, neighborhood they live in, schools
they went to, grades they acheived all come into play in the,
"Hello, who are you routines people play"

I've tried not to look at the top right hand side of people that post negative thoughts, but I just can't
help myself. You know the reputation, the number of post, the number of blessings, the health bar ...

Often have wondered about some of them and how they got so high,
but the thought alone would just lead to having to repent of the sin of judging so why go there.

Come on we've all been there ... Like that one person above me said,

It's easy... you look the fruit of how that person is living.

A good tree bears good fruit.

Judge not that ye be not judged . . this is referring to judging another's soul, whether that one is worthy of salvation, judging another's HEART . .

God alone is the judge of another's heart . . . God dispenses judgement based on what He finds in the heart, He examines the heart before judging our words and deeds . . .

Judge not . . . do not sit in judgement of another's heart .. . for you will be judged by God the same as you judge another . . ..

You would sit and judge another on mere superficial appearances?

It is to such that this warning was given . .

Judge not that ye be not judged, for with what measure you meet out, so will it be meeted to you in return . .

If one is going to judge people on mere superficial appearances, then expect to be judged by God in kind . ..

[BIBLE]Matthew 7:1-5[/BIBLE]

Greek word "kreeno" from the root word kreemah which means to make a decision as in a legal decision. To pronounce judgment on someone.

Beholdest is the greek word "blepo" which means to pay attention to , perceive or take heed.

[BIBLE]Luke 6:36-38[/BIBLE]

Same greek words for judge and also the same promise. Notice here it is linked to a command to be merciful.

[BIBLE]John 7:24[/BIBLE]
[BIBLE]Proverbs 19:17[/BIBLE]
[BIBLE]Romans 14:13[/BIBLE]
Same Greek word Kreeno.
[BIBLE]Romans 2:1-6[/BIBLE]

The word condemn in this passage is the same greek word kreeno. Verse 3...judgment of God ..same greek word.
[BIBLE]James 2:10-13[/BIBLE]
Again the concept of mercy connected to not judging....

[BIBLE]Romans 12:19[/BIBLE]

Mercy and judgment. That is what is being spoken about in all of these passages. The problem with us judging is that our words carry power and we have elevated ourselves to the position of judge over someone. First of all that is God's place because God sees the heart and can judge a righteous judgement. We only see in part.
Secondly , it may that God desires mercy in that partuicular situation.

So, Therese, you don't believe the scriptures?

Matthew 7:17-20
"Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. "A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. "Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. "Therefore by their fruits you will know them."

James 3:10-12
Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so. Does a spring send forth fresh water and bitter from the same opening? Can a fig tree, my brethren, bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Thus no spring yields both salt water and fresh.

James 1:21-22
Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.

1 Pet 4:17
For the time has come for judgment to begin at the house of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God?

That is exactly right. Condemn or condemnation would be the equivalent english words to use in these phrases. It is a legal term, not a term for discernment.

So many people use this phrase to justify their actions and themselves when others call them on the carpet for their false words and deeds.

I think we sometimes blur the line between gossip and judging. If we say John Doe isn't saved and he is going to hell, then that is a judgement rserved for our God alone. But if we say john Doe down the street isn't saved and I saw him out doing so and so...then it is gossip. Too often we confuse the two because we don't want to admit we might have a log in our eye. I try to stay away from both gossip and judging as I have seen them split churches.

I also think looking at ones fruit is a good and Godly way to look at a person. We must be on gaurd at all times and surround ourselves with those that bear fruit. Granted sometimes fruit falls from our trees and we make mistakes. We should not be judged for that we all lose a little fruit now and then. Thing is, it grows back!!! And as for the tree, it continues to grow taller....:)....peace and blessings to ALL

I'm not sure of the point you're trying to make so excuse me if I misunderstood.
The verses you're referring to actually refer to God. he's the one who judges, not us.

Again, sorry if I misunderstood, I wasn't really sure about your point.
