  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So I was watching a trailer for Noah and it says in the bible in Genesis 7:1 "Then the Lord said to Noah, "Come into the ark, you and all your household, because I have seen that you are righteous before Me in this generation."

Noah got drunk and naked after the flood. Some people would consider at least getting drunk as being a sin.

Now I am not saying that God does not care about some sins and only cares about others, but I do wonder sometimes because some people make more out of doing or not doing some things more than others.

Do you think sometimes we make more out of some "sins" than others? I know God views all sin alike, so please if you are inclined to tell me that, I do know it.

I just happen to think that God measures our hearts more than our actions sometimes. We ALL do bad things in some form or another and while I will agree that that is why we all need a Savior, maybe we should focus more on loving people instead of every little thing they are doing that makes them unchristian in our eyes..

I think that the word "righteous" didn't mean he was sin-free but rather his heart was right. I think real sin is a heart issue so intention plays a big number in there. What is a major sin for one because it is a known rebellion might not be a big issue with another person. Yes, sin is sin...but that includes all those less than total truths we tell all day long as well or the minute we go one mile over the speed limit....so since we will be rewarded in Heaven for our righteousnesses, I suspect that there are degree of sin too. "Sin is sin" because it is what keeps all of us out of heaven.

So I went to see Noah tonight. Yes, there were whole story lines that aren't in the Bible. But if the movie just told what the Bible says it would have been over in a half hour!

The movie did an amazing job of showing evil and not just evil in those outside of Noah's family but Noah is very aware of the evil in his own heart and yet he still has a hard time knowing where God's judgement was to end.

There is a very clear message of redemption that I really liked.

The criticism of the environmental message I feel was over done. The environment is a way of showing the evil of man without having to show a lot of hate and blood even tho they did some a little. It does bring home that God saved way more animals than people in the arc.

I saw Noah's drunkenness in a different light from the movie. Noah had just been God's right hand man in killing almost all life and was so into that judgement that he almost didn't stop when he was suppose to. So Noah being drunk is a way of dealing with that guilt. But Noah himself is redeemed in the end.

Oh movie didn't say anything about what Noah being seen naked meant. Ham sees Noah naked, but its not Ham that is cursed but Canaan, Ham's son. I think from my study of the event and future its the descendents of Canaan that cause Israel so many problems, that brings a curse on Canaan, who represents that line of descendents. So its not the literal seeing Noah naked that is judged but its from sex that brings forth a people that resist God's people for centuries.

About the nakedness. I read a commentary that said that it wasn't just that Ham saw his dad naked. It's that he didn't do anything right then, but instead went out and told others about it and maybe even mocked his dad for being in that state.

I'm not totally sure but it seems to me that I am seeing God show me that it's our hearts he really wants and a relationship. I even read this morning in Proverbs 21:3 "To do righteousness and justice is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice".

Maybe it's my sense of humor but I've always thought Noah came out of that ark thinking, “I need me a drink!” and can you really fault him for that? Noah was 600 years old when the flood happened. It couldn't be the first time he got drunk and naked. So I never thought of it as sin to begin with. I don't know what all God sees. I just know that He does. I don't believe a lot of the “labeling” or "finger pointing" has anything to do with God. I think with people the closer to home, the smaller the stone. I also think there are some people who resent being human. So anything of perceived weakness is a sin.

My late father ,with only an eight grade education, was a Deacon and a Sunday School teacher at the Southern Baptist Church that I grew up in.

After I became an adult, we got into a debate about Ham. According to my father's theology, Ham was cursed by Noah, and was turned black. Since Ham was to serve his brotheren, this is why blacks ,in America ,became slaves!!

This type of pseudo theology was used to justify slavery.

When I told my father that melanin causes skin pigment and not Noah's curse, my father became angry. My father's words were,"You (me) are using science to refute the Bible!!!!"

I told him,"Science has not killed my faith. Science has enhanced my faith. The Bible says that GOD made Adam out of the earth. Well, our cells are made up with 70% water, and the earth is 75% water."

Therefore, what you do not not know ,can hurt you.

That is too bad your father thought like that. Based on genetics, it is likely that Adam and Eve were medium skin color because they needed to carry all the current genetic possibilities. I heard one very educated scientist explain it that with every one of Eve's pregnancies there must have been a great expectation to see what THIS one would look like....would it have black, brown, red, or blonde hair?.....would the skin be light, dark, and with red or yellow undertones?....etc.....

My fil was taught the same screwed up teaching that the curse was dark skin color...which is an example of what can happen when people take the Bible story and start making assumptions or passing on assumptions that really are NOT there.
