• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I don't think I have an eating problem, but my eating habits are very odd.
I often go to bed hungry, yet do not eat.
If I do not see something that makes me 'want' to eat, I don't.
I mean, if there's a supper my mom's making that I love, I'll dig right in. I eat chocolate with a reckless abandon as well as other desserts.

I generally have coffee for breakfast, lunch I generally don't eat because nothing tempts me. Dinner, I'll eat, but depending on what it is, depends on how much I'll eat.
It probably gets to be around 2 pm before I eat for the first time that day.
I weigh 110-115 lbs, I'm 5'3.

I lost a lot of weight rapidly last fall, my mother actually cornered me and listened outside the bathroom door to hear if I was throwing up! *very protective but loving mom*
I got freaked out myself, because I didn't know why I was losing. (I got down to 100 doesn't sound like much, but on my frame it's really noticeable)
It was because I was in a theater production and just didn't have time to eat...

But, now, I just don't like eating. If it's nothing something I really want, I don't eat it.
And when I force myself to eat I feel sick.

One cup of coffee at 9 in the morning will hold me until 1 or 2 pm, and that's after I've already gone to bed hungry.

It's really odd..anyone else suffer from this?

sounds like you need to talk to a doctor. eating disorders sneak up on us. it's not obvious or something we want to recognize. we think we have control, but we don't. you need to see doc and talk about your appitite and eating habits. don't put it off.

that can be annoying.... my parents thought i was bulimic for a while because i was loosing weight and went to the bathroom a lot. (i have a tiny bladder). i cannot say for sure if you have an ed, from waht you've said, it doens't sound like your ed has become TOO difficult, though i woudln't know.... pray about it and pray that God will help motivate you to eat more.

I would really suggest just being honest with your mom (if you havent already) and seeing a doctor. Rather be safe than sorry. If you arent careful this could lead to more...and I assure you it isnt a place that you want to venture into.

Keep is updated ok? =o)

It appears your body is not getting the nutritents it needs to sustain your health. You really should see a doctor and ask for a nutritional counselor. Whether you feel like eating or not, there are certain nutrients your body needs in certain quantities for your health.

God bless.

Well, I did it!
I sucked up my courage and went to my mom about it.
I didn't want to at first, because I didn't want her to worry.

She surprisingly told me that when she was my age, she did more or less the same thing.
It wasn't a wight issue, it was a habit issue.

So, she and I are going to regulate what I eat and when, making it a habit. Making sure I eat in the morning afternoon and evening.

She was happy I told her, and she didn't wig out or anything *sighs in relief* I knew she wouldn't be angry..but maybe a tad overzelous. So I was happy.

Thank you so much for all of your encouragement.

*sigh* It's been on and off.
I'm trying to remember to eat, but sometimes, I just don't have time.
Today I ran out the door with only a coffee and didn't eat until 1:30 pm and even then it was a McDonalds 1/4 pounder with cheese!
Dinner was homemade pancakes..so that's not bad, and I ate 1/2 a grape-fruit and a multi-vitemin.

So, it's going okay. :sigh:

Hi Sis,

It's happened to me before...where I just plain lose my appetite and I derive very little pleasure in eating. But so much goes into this. I've struggled with real EDs in my past, but since I was born again in 2001, those strongholds are mostly torn down. I did experience something weird a year ago. I hadn't been worrying about dieting or my weight all that much for a good 2 years when all of a sudden I started losing weight without trying. It was pretty gradual at first, I think it had to do with stress, and then it increased. I wasn't consciously going about losing any weight, although I took it as a blessing from God (I gained quite a bit of weight after I surrendered my compulsive exercise and laxative use to Him). I just kept merrily losing weight, for the first time without trying, which was great until I started getting really tiny. I got as tiny as I did when I was in the darkest and deepest of my real EDs, so I went to my Christian Physician and he evaluated me. I was not diagnosed with a real eating disorder, which I was thankful for because I didn't trust myself even though I was confused and not really trying. It turns out I had gall stones!!!! Even though I was healthy and young and in good physical condition. Gall stones will cause you to lose your appetite and eating starts losing it's entire appeal. So my case was a little tricky, because at first glance, it would be safe to assess that I was struggling with an ED again, but I actually wasn't! I would look up gall stones online if I were you, so you can see if your symptoms match up. Sometimes it goes pretty much symptom-free except for the lack of appetite part. Or you may be teetering with something more serious. Be prayerful, keep everything in the light with your spiritual friends and especially the Lord. Keep your motives in line and be honest about them when they're off (i.e. sort of liking the weight loss and starting to stay in the pattern you're in, even if you start feeling your normal appetite returning). eating disorders are sneaky and form when you don't even fully realize it. or you may be in a stressful time in your life. there are a lot of factors. be open to letting Him tell you. :)

always,

Jenka,

You sound an awful lot like me. It really isn't so much a matter of feeling fat, but its just I don't have TIME or the interest in eating. And I go in weird spurts. The other day I went to work so hungry I almost fainted twice. But yesterday I had three complete meals.

I've been hearing a lot about young adults not getting enough sleep because they are so busy, and I'm wondering if its not true for eating as well?

Jenka! I hear ya! Those theatre productions can seriously consume so much time, along with subconcious nerves feeding you instead of food! Then you kind of get used to it... and then your eating schedule gets all bumped around. It's crazy. But sometimes I forget to eat too... That's why routines sometimes help.

Oh I'm sure it's true.
My day's are still on and off, I didn't eat until 2 pm today, and even then it was only 5 pieces of bacon. I had dinner though, and even made some buns, but I know I'm still not eating enough.
I weighed myself and I'm 113, (I'm 5'3) so that's not bad..but it worries me when I look down and see my hip bones jutting out, and being able to count my ribs.
:sigh: I think I'm just getting depressed now.
