Not necessary to keep Sabbath according to New Testement

Actually Christ faught the Pharisees from turning the Sabbath into something it wasn't, several times. He fought FOR the Sabbath.

The New Testament is FULL of references that prove the Sabbath was a commandment that did not change or get abolished.

Matthew 24:20 is Christ talking about a Sabbath day He knew would occur over 40+ years after He returned to heaven.

Adventists keep the Sabbath commandment because Christ did. We fight for it like Christ did, although we shouldn't have to. God commanded we keep His holy day, that's enough for me.

I'd like to see those verses if you don't mind looking them up again.

I've read the Bible cover-to-cover and never once have I seen Christ step on God's law.

Right? So why do SDAs believe that you must keep the Sabbath? Also, doesn't the New Testament also declare ALL food clean?
the story of Peter and the cloth let down from Heaven had little to do with food. When we read it in context we see that for peter as all jews at that time believed that the gentiles were fotter for the fires of hell and to enter thier house would defile them. What happened after Peter had this dream he went to a gentiles home. The analogy God used that Peter would clearly understand was with the clean and unclean foods. After all God said not one tittle shall pass from the law till all be fulfilled. Since we are still here on a sinful earth all has not been fulfilled.

If your are refuring to the times Christ picked corn on the Sabbath or healed on the Sabbath again see the context. The is Gods law and there is Mans law. The Jews had created so many rules so as to not break Gods law they made the Sabbath a burden. Jesus wa trying to correc6t their thinking not trying to change or abolish the Sabbath.

Jesus also said to the parishes that until they stop sinning then they could judge people and kick them from the synagouges. TYPO* So you see the arrogance of people we are all doomed if we think or be bold in our sabbath keeping. Like Jesus told the apostles " tax collectors and prostitutes will inherit the earth for just believing in me." So suffering in humility is something all denominations will fail at. Their doctrines are the "right" one yada yada. I love my church because they dont care where Im from or my attitude they accept me no matter what. I suffer from severe ADHD and sometimes go off the deep end but they still give me spirtual cleansing and love. As sheep we gather to listen to the Good shepherds voice emanating from our pastor. Praise Jesus for your blood AMEN

Greetings,

Jesus said, if you love me, keep my commandments. Was He talking about the 9 commandments or all 10 of them?

Jesus also said,

Matthew 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill.

Fulfill: fill to the fullest. Doesn’t mean to abolish one of them. No?

Matthew 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

Luke 16:17 And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail.

God’s laws are eternal.

1 John 3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

1 Peter 2
21 For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:
22 Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:

1 Peter 2:21&22 say Jesus committed no sin (did not break any laws) and set an example for us. Shouldn’t we keep all the law including the Sabbath commandment like Jesus did?

The Sabbath or the 7th day was made holy after creation as a memorial or remembrance for all God’s creation (not just the jews).

Genesis 2
2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.
3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

And the Sabbath shall be kept in the new heaven.

Isaiah 66
22 For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain.
23 And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD.

Jesus kept and taught on Sabbath:

Luke 4:16 And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.

His followers (the new Christians) kept the Sabbath:

Luke 23:56 And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment.

Paul kept and preached on Sabbath:

Acts 13:44 And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God.

Acts 18:4 And he reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks.

But wasn’t the law nailed to the cross by Jesus?

Colossians 2:14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

Ephesians 2:15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;

It was the ceremonial laws that were nailed to the cross. The ceremonial sacrifices performed in the OT pointed to Jesus’ ultimate sacrifice. After Jesus died on the cross, they were no longer required to carry out any longer.

These laws are the law of Moses. They were written in the book of law of Moses. They are not part of the 10 commandments.

Deut 31:26 Take this book of the law, and put it in the side of the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God, that it may be there for a witness against thee.

The law of Moses were not stored inside of the Ark of Covenant together with the 2 stone tablets of the 10 commandments. The Commandments of God reflect Christ’s characters and are eternal. The law of Moses was not. We are not judged by the law of Moses.

Colossians 2
16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

The 10 commandments say nothing about meat, drink, new moon… Here in Col 2:16, the Sabbath days are the annual Sabbaths: the feast days. They were shadows that pointed to Jesus Christ. The weekly Sabbath or 7th day Sabbath was not a shadow that pointed to Jesus. It was a memorial of God’s creation. Therefore it is not abolished, done away with or nailed to the cross.

If the Sabbath was done away with the other 9 commandments, then is it ok to murder, steal and worship other gods? Of course not.

Romans 3:20 …for by law is the knowledge of sin.

I used to go to a Baptist church. After I read about the Sabbath, I looked up every verse that contains Sabbath in the New Testament. I was convinced about it. I suggest you to do the same and let the holy spirit convict you. You can do online search at http://www.biblegateway.com

About the NT talks about all food made clean, you were referring to Peter’s dream in

Acts 10.
13 And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat.
14 But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean.
15 And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.

It was a vision that in reality was God telling Peter to preach the gospel onto the gentiles. The gentiles were called common or unclean by the jews. Acts 10 & 11 were talking about preaching the word to all people. Peter later understood the vision.

Acts 10:28 And he said unto them, Ye know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one of another nation; but God hath shewed me that I should not call any man common or unclean.

Hope this helps,

If you look at the verses after Peter had the vision you would see that it was about the taking of the gospel to the Gentiles. At this stage the early Christians still thought the Gentiles were unclean.

God had given Peter the vision so he would understand that evryone was to receive the gospel. That no group was to be excluded.

We see that it had nothing to do with food at all, but people instead.

As to the Sabbath if you were to go over to GT you would see a thread there on the Sabbath issues well over 1,000 posts and still not one person can come up with a text to say the 7th day Sabbath has been done away with.

Not one person has come up with a text to say the first day of the week/Sunday is the Sabbath.

So why not follow the example that Jesus gave and keep the 7th day as the Sabbath.

Praise God! This is an abundance of proof that God's law is still 100% in effect today and has not been abolished by Christ. Christ came to save man, not to abolish God's law. Christ himself kept God's commandments and we are told to follow in His footsteps. 1 Peter 2:21-22 "

21For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: 22Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:"

In addition to what OntheDL wrote, I would add:

James 2:8-12.

8If you really keep the royal law found in the Scripture, “Love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing right. 9But if you show favoritism, you sin and are convicted by the law as law breakers. 10For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it. 11For he who said, “Do not commit adultery,” also said, “Do not murder.” If you do not commit adultery but do commit murder, you have become a law breaker.
12Speak and act as those who are going to be judge by the law that gives freedom, 13because judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment! NIV.

“Love your neighbor as your self,” according to James is the Royal Law in the Scripture, a perfect law that gives freedom, by which we would be judge (James 1:25). And this law, as James specified in verse 10 and 11, is nothing else then the summation of the 6 laws of the Decalogue (Romans 13:9), while the first 4 laws is summed up as “Love the Lord your God ……. (Matthew 22:36-40).

Those who love his neighbors would not show favoritism, if he shows it, he doesn’t have the love of God in his heart, he is still selfish, he still live in sin and ruled by his sinful heart.

Love is fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22), but favoritism is an act of the sinful nature (Galatians 5:19-21), which is against God’s principle. Therefore, James said that those who show favoritism sinned and convicted by the law as law breaker, which law? The Decalogue! As Jesus said, the Decalogue are summed up in “love to God and love to our neighbor” (Romans 13:8-10; Matthew 22:36-40). Love is the principle of the Decalogue (Romans 13:8), which is God principle (1 John 4:16), and favoritism is based on the principle of selfishness that is against God’s principle.

Without doubt, the Decalogue remain in it existence, as James clearly specify it, that those who break one point of the Decalogue, he is guilty of breaking it all. Showing favoritism breaking the whole law of the Decalogue for it is against the principle of the law, which is love.

Therefore, James advised his readers to speak and act as according to the law that gives freedom, by which we would be judge. Which law? “Love your God with all your heart and love your neighbor as yourself” which is a summation of The Decalogue, a law that give us freedom from selfishness, from the sin within us.

For those who love his neighbors has fulfilled the law demand (Romans 13:8,10) and thus escape from the penalty of the law that is without mercy at the judgment.

The love of God is not obtained through a strict obedience to the Decalogue, but comes from a new heart God gave to them who repent and experience the miracle of rebirth through baptism and a life according to the Spirit. Paul said; “That the righteous requirements of the law (unselfish love) might be fulfilled in us, who do not live according to the sinful nature (selfishness) but according to the Spirit.” Romans 8:4.

Sabbath keeping is a part of the Decalogue, to be observed as according to the 4th commandment. Not to obtain righteousness, not to maintain salvation, but to have a day where we might concentrate our heart and mind to God for a whole day with resting from our daily business and activity, keeping the day holy and got His blessing. Sabbath keeping is an expression of our faith and an overflow of the love of God in our hearts.

In His love

JDAS
