  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Not a debate...why pray the Rosary?

Why pray the rosary?
Why pray for intercession from the saints?
and Why the need for memorized scripted prayers?
Just a few question for the Catholic brothers and sisters.

Because we are called to ask for intercession, just as Paul did (Rm 15:30 for instance), from other members of the Body of Christ. We also believe the prayer of the righteous is very powerful (Jm 5:16), and thus we believe those in heaven have the most powerful prayers, Mary right at the front of the line. There is a oneness in Catholic theology among all members of the Body of Christ, including those in heaven. We do not believe them to be off-limits for intercession just because they are now in God's presence. No such division exists in the Body.

Praying a "scripted" prayer as you call it is similar to how Jesus gave us a "scripted" prayer when He taught His disciples to pray (Lk 11:1-4). The repetition aids us in meditating upon the mysteries of Christ's life, to which each decade of the Rosary is dedicated. Examples include the Birth of Christ, the Scourging at the Pillar, the Resurrection. The Rosary is essentially the prayer of the Gospel. The repetition is in the tradition of such prayers as Psalm 136.

Psalm 136 has become one of my favorite psalms as of late.
It is wonderful how God will use a scripture to encourage people!
Anyway thank you fore those that answered.
I don't agree with it but I apreciate the answers.
As a theology student I am curious about all things "theological."

I did not start this to cause debate but if you want to know my reasons for not agreeing with the post of MrPolo and the catholic doctrine of praying to the deceased pm me.
But again...thank you

God Bless you family in Christ

The post about the rosary provided was actually what peaked my curiosity....lol
I was catholic (sort of) as a kid. After the first time I read the Bible I became a Christian. Not that Catholics are not Christian but I dont believe in the tradition of the Catholic church doctrines.

If this is a question specifically for the Roman Catholics, than why not ask it in their forum or the "Denomination-specific" area?
I presented it here because it would apear that this section is specific to Mary and saint worship.

I ask because Roman Catholics are not the only folks who venerate Mary and the other saints.

You may not see it as worship but most people do.
You see when Our Lord Jesus said to pray , as you know He said to pray to the Father in His (Jesus) name. So most Christians, not of the Catholic faith, see Mary and Saint devotions as worship.
This is not meant as an insult or rebuke. I am just stating my beliefs as I know them.

. I do not intend to insult you.... however I call it plainly, as I see it.
.
From a fellow straight shooter, beware of the number personal attacks leveled on upon you...It's become a pasttime of a few on here to go after me for this very reason, even though my beef is with the doctrines and dogmas and not the persons specifically.

If you bow to someone as a sign of respect, are you worshipping them?

Why are you pulling loose definitions from dictionary websites and applying them to very specific contexts? The only definition that fits anywhere near the idea of saintly veneration is: "a feeling of profound love and admiration." If you're going to claim that any sort of profound love and/or admiration is "worship," then I think perhaps you need to re-examine what worship really means.

I love the Catholic Church in its present form with the exception of Mary and Saint worship
veneration*

and tradition being equal with scripture.
Given that the Bible is a product of Tradition and is part of it, why is this a problem, again?

That being said I was looking for scripural reasons for saying the rosary.
It's a prayer. Why do you pray?

veneration*

By the way, it's not vain.

Is it safe to say that Catholics do not believe they are Saints sanctified by the God to His service through the Blood of the Lamb?
No. Catholicism makes a distinction between saints and Saints. Saints (capital S) are those who the Church has declared, with certainty, to be in heaven. Saints (lowercase S) are those who are in heaven, as well as the believers. Huzzah communion of saints.

I have shared my belief...now some one please tell me why they say the Rosary?
Is it to keep the traditions of the Church or is it to recieve a word form God?
It's a prayer. You pray it for the same reason you would pray any other prayer. It has the specific intention of focusing on the life of Jesus, though.

Very good response...i respect your points.
By the way the verse is in the Bible used the word Vain not I.
Also when I pray I speak directly to God with my praise, worship, petitions, concerns, Joys, and thanks giving. When I want to relfect on the life of Jesus and seek His face...I read the Bible and or go to a praise and worship services and recieve communion.
