Non-Denominational = false prophets?

My husband tried to take me down, but it didn't work. It did raise a question though. Here's how it happened...

Me: I love you blah blah blah, I would really like to reconcile, blah blah.

Him: I hate you, my whole family hates you, and quit acting like you're a Christian because you've been an atheist for the last 20 years.

Me: I'm sorry you feel like that. I've changed. I'll pray for you. And, I AM a Christian.

Him: Catholic? *I was baptised Catholic, this is why he asked.

Me: No.

Him: What?

Me: Non-denominational. *I said this because the only online bible study I get is from a live feed from Calvary Chapel in Ft. Lauderdale...which is non-denominational. I think I've mentioned before that I don't know enough about the different types of Christians to know what I am yet

Him: HA! False prophets! Is that what you're into now?

He went on to trying to bring me down on other things, but I just let the comments roll off. He tried to bring me down even though he's the one that had an affair, LOL.

Sooo, is what he said about "false prophets" and "non-denominational" true?

No, they are not false prophets, though I do have my problems with Calvary Chapel.

Do you have a problem with the staff and the way they teach, or a problem with something the church stands for? I guess what I'm getting at is do you have a problem with ONE Calvary Chapel, or all of them? Can I ask why, so I can weigh the pros and cons for myself?

Don't get me wrong though, there are some great people at Calvary Chapel. I just disagree with a lot of their doctrine, and how they don't teach what little doctrine they do have to their congregations.

I will do further research on them for you but they are not false prophets.. My belief is that if you feel that THE LORD is speaking to you and your life is changing then stay there.. Greg laurie is a good man.. And no church is perfect, i urge caution in making any desicions based on hearsay..

Your testimony can and will win your husband remain faithful. Sometimes it is hard to put the LORD first in every desicion but wait on his perfect timing for you and the way will be much easier. Walk by faith in what He has done for you already and hold on when the temptations to look at circumstances or give up come.. Be faithful and you will see GOds faithfulness revealed in a special way.. The joy of the LORD is your strength...Keep praising him and let that joy shine from your countenance..

First of all, your husband needs to look into Eph 5.

Second, I love Calvary Chapel. I run a chapel in the summertime for (recreational) sailors, locals and others who may not feel comfortable in a traditional church service.

We've seen several people saved and baptised and countless seeds planted.

The chapel is co-sponsored by Calvary Chapel and my denom, the SBC.

Calvary Chapels are hold to orthodoxy and are firm on the essentials.

Did you have any specific questions about them?

I listen to a lot of things (online, radio & TV) from all denominations because I can't get enough. What I've noticed is that sometimes the message is perfectly clear, and other times, it sounds like the teacher in Charlie Brown: Wa-wawa wa-wawa wa.

I haven't been able to tell if this is because some messages are on a higher level than what I've learned so far, so it's harder for me to understand them...or if it's because God is tuning my ears out from hearing something He doesn't want me to listen to.

With Calvary Chapel, I'm listening to Bob Coy online. I'd listen to other services, but I don't know of any others that are streamed live online. I'm open to suggestions, but it has to be online because I have to work everyday (thanks to my husband that abandoned our business).

So, as far as my question goes with my husband...I take it he was just not acting very Christian-like, and was not only judging me, but also trying to make me doubt that I could possibly be a Christian.

you need to hold up an "affairs scoreboard" in front of his face. under it put him and her. then write up any score you want for him. maybe you should tack it to the refridgerator so he can give it a look every day as a reminder of his transgression.

We are separated, and his family (Baptists) seems to be making sure it stays that way.

I keep Proverbs 6:32 with me, and I tried to read it to him, but he accused me of being a non-Christian, so it didn't hold true. I kept reading, and he started mocking the words I read. At one time, he said something like "Oh, Ms. Atheist is trying to understand scripture now"...so I started over and read him some of the translations .

The thing that got me out of all of this is that he was accusing me of not being a Christian while he was acting like this!

I'm sorry, sounds like rough times. Calvary Chapel and Baptists aren't really any different from eachother, so any "false prophets" arguement won't work.

Remember that if he did the cheating, then you do have Biblical reason to divorce him. But if you reconcile, that is always the best option.

Non denominational aren't false prophets. False prophets are the ones who deny Christ and call themselves that. They're the ones who teach but don't believe Christ came in human form, died a mortal death and was ressurected. Take a look somewhere in 1 John or 2 John.

Calvary Chapel does not represent all non-denominationals.... (Heck, they're practically a denomination in and of themselves.....)

Our church is non-denom. This means we are not tied to a larger organization. Other than the body of Christ that is.

You and your husband do not attend the same church? May I ask why?

When I met my husband (1984), he was a non-practicing Baptist. I was a non-practicing Catholic. My husband always said he believed in God, I always said I didn't believe in anything. To this day, I've never seen or heard my husband pray or discuss God in any way. I on the other hand was the one that encouraged my son to go to church with my mother-in-law...I also encouraged my husband to go to church with his mother once in a while, but he only did this once. My husband and I have never been to church together.

I always wanted to look more into God, but I didn't have many people in my life as a role model for this. Looking back, my life as a non-Christian was very blessed, so I have to believe God knew he'd gain my faith someday.

As this has all evolved, it is ME that has the strong desire to follow God's word as best as I can. I'm really baffled by this, because my mother-in-law has been a practicing Baptist all her life. I am really surprised how quickly she is willing to go against God during this time. I'm not judging her as being a bad Christian, I'm just surprised how she is showing how she can pick and choose which part of His word to follow based on her own feelings towards me (I'm the evil girl that stole her son from her).

Today, I could spend all day studying the Bible and still want more . My biggest regret is I didn't do this sooner.

From your description, it's doubtful your husband is a Christian. That is not a judgement, merely an observation based on the evedince presented. Just because your mother-in-law has been a practicing Baptist her whole life does not mean she's a Christian. (Dosen't mean she isn't either.....)

Pray for both your husband and his mother. This is in God's hands and He knows what is best for you.

Do you have any Christian support in your life? (Other than this board.)

Like I said, it's promarily for sailors so it's held at a marina. Being outside and on the water, not to mention that sailing is, in itself, pretty casual, lends itself to a very casual atmosphere.

The dress is much more relaxed (shorts and a t-shirt are the norm and most people think you're overdressed if you wear shoes). The music tends to be a little more upbeat and the preaching, while still very straightforward and Biblically based expositional preaching, tends to be a little more conversational.

It's different but it's not different. It's very loose and relaxed but at the same time, I don't think it's all that out of place with what we see in church every Sunday.

It's great. I can't tell you how many people come who might never step foot in a church otherwise.

"Yes and no" about having Christian support through this. Because of the situation I'm in due to our divorce, I'm forced to work our business by myself...so I don't currently have the time to go to church or attend other Christian activities.

What's happened as a result of this is I'm listening to Bible studies online. My parents are gaining interest in Christianity because I started reading the Bible and sharing my answered prayers with them. When my customers see my Bible on the desk, they talk to me about God, their churches, their studies, etc.

I also learned I have a customer who's husband is a Pastor at a local church. In a pinch, or under crisis, this couple would be able to help me or put me in touch with someone...and I feel good just knowing that.

So, by accident, I've been united with many Christians while I've been working, and they have been very supportive. Although this isn't a traditional setting, I am thankful God made them visible to me.

There are no accidents...

If you have any free time I would recomend getting involved in a Bible study with other believers. God does not intend his children to function alone. We need fellowship with other believers and, as much as these forums are useful, they are a poor substitute for Christian fellowship in the real world....
