  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I don't think a steady diet of Mott the Hoople or Manson is going to do anyone any good. But, on the other hand, their are some secular artists out there who are writing better God-inspired lyrics than just about any (not all) of the CHristian superstars. Contemporay Christian is kinda like contemporay pop or country--it has become so formulated that it seldom comes from the heart any more. Institutionalized I suppose would be the right term for it. Real art happens when people are inspired by God, by life, etc.--not by trying to emulate the latest star in their genre of preference. Sadly, Christian labels have jumped on the "clone-the-hits" band wagon along with the rest of the music industry, and the result is that there are some very anointed, prophetic, and flat-out talented musicians out there who can't make it because they don't sound like everybody else. It has just become a shallow, sick, sad scenario for those with real talent and for those who could benefit from hearing their messages.

Personally I don't think it's bad for Christians to listen to non Christian music. Like me I really Like Jennifer Lopez's music and her songs arn't exactly written for the Lord or anything, but as long as the music you're listening to isn't something influencing your life I think it's fine.

I totally agree with you. I like to listen to pop/punk rock, and there REALLY aren't a whole lot of Christian bands that can play what I like. No offense, but sometimes I can relate a little more to secular music than I can to "church music". Rock on...

Meanwhile, Axver is posting in the U2 fan thread that's almost a year old :p.
Ah yes, but it's been active that whole time (hard to believe for the whole time I've been here, I've come to the secular music forum and posted on that thread), and there's only ONE U2 fan thread. The 'is non-Christian music OK?' topic has been beaten to death ... and to a second, third, fourth, and probably fiftieth death by now.

There are a lot of Christian bands/singers that are good these days. Switchfoot, 12 stones, Kutless, Skillet, Kutless, Pillar, Jeremy Camp, Jonah 33, Mortification..The list goes on.. I dont think that Christians should listen to most non christian music because a lot of it isnt good.. (take Eminem, Korn, Limp Biskit as examples) What we listen to affects the way we act most of the time. When we are listening to bad music we have bad things filling our minds, when we should be filling our minds with Godly things. We should fill our minds with the things of Christ, not of the world.. We really shouldn't listen to music that includes images of sex, drugs, suicide or includes swearing, because it, as I said, fills our heads with things that aren't of God. If its going to take up time with the Lord, then there's another thing you have to think of when you are listening to it. Is it going to glorify God? (Remember what the bible says-whoever isnt for God is against him.. That means that you are listening to people who are against God..hmmm
Im not saying that all non christian bands are evil or anything, but next time you put on a secular CD, rethink over the musics content.. WWJD?
Take care and..
