Eph 4 doesnt indicate anyone in charge.. just the body with different members
functioning as God chooses... iirc.

Yes but as we see in He made some Pastor teachers. We see Paul giving qualifications for leaders of a body.

0 to 3 at Half but we came back strong for a win 4 to 3.

My daughter quit soccer this year, to devote to cheerleading.
But my kids play AYSO in spring.

What did you have in mind?

True - but the teacher is teaching them this - and we will always need and have a teacher - thru succession.

As per scriptures in scope of the entire scriptures. Teachers who instruct the word - are always here.

In theory they're not contradictory.

Like this: any galoot can think he's called by God to preach. We've all seen that here on CF, and many of us in real life as well -- the guy who thinks he has a prophetic message to deliver and is supposed to start a new church that teaches The True Gospel (as opposed, I guess, to the false gospels taught by the other million or so people who also believe themselves called by God.)

To deal with this, the prospective candidate presents himself for discernment -- a process in which he, the bishop of his diocese, his pastor, his seminary teachers as he is educated in theology, homiletics, pastoral counseling, etc., evaluate whether he has a true vocation to the ordained ministry or not. It's an ongoing process. When he has completed seminary the Bishop, if convinced of his vocation, ordains him and licenses him to preach and administer the sacraments within his diocese.

It is the bishop's job to provide leadership, administration, and guidance [oversight] to the clergy and parishes under his care, to preserve the faith once given, and to pass on that authority in the laying on of hands to set apart men for the diaconate, the presbyteriate, and the episcopacy.

This balances the individual perception of God's calling with the judgment of the Church as a whole, carried out through its ministers.

Well I have Pastor teachers, elders, and deacons in the body I attend. I measure the gift a man proclaims to have through the very written scriptures. We have many ministries in the body I attend.

once he gets his faith on, we'll pray for a healing for this dear child.

Let me tell you what happens
One got married in May (oh you know that lol) He used to stop every Saturday
to see his brothers and me.. met her and it became less frequent but they started
attending my church (cool) Got married and i seem him only in church for the
most part lol.. sigh.
(NOT complaining, leaveing and cleaving is a wonderful thing for all parties )

There was a point many years ago i was a soccer dad, i've already told J that it was my job to parent til he wed, then i'd back out unless he summoned me for info. College is practice for both of us him making good decisions and me not always critiquing them.

My son was out for a few weeks, he somehow jammed his knee when he was jerked by falling into a hole when running.

Cheerleading! I was a cheerleader and it was SO fun, (except when the

Cheer now consists of gymnastics and competitions. Just more nerve wracking sports.

So remember he is called to teach and does so.
As i said before, we cannot pull apart snippets of scriptures from the other...since it is a whole story.
For in Timothy he tells him how a Bishop should act.
And for Timothy to keep both oral and written Tradition.
He is intructing him to carry on through succession.

Ephesians 4 does not remotely suggest the opposite of his other writings.

In fact:

[1] I therefore, a prisoner in the Lord, beseech you that you walk worthy of the vocation in which you are called, [2] With all humility and mildness, with patience, supporting one another in charity. [3] Careful to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. [4] One body and one Spirit; as you are called in one hope of your calling. [5] One Lord, one faith, one baptism.

One faith and one Baptism pretty much sums up that not several faiths of different foundations can coexist as all being correct and true.

AGAIN:

[11] And he gave some apostles, and some prophets, and other some evangelists, and other some pastors and doctors, [12] For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

For the work of THE ministry. St Paul was a teacher of that ministry which carried on through the episcopacy...which means Chair.
A chair is a seat that always needs filled.
Just a king has a throne, the ministers must fill the chairs of those who were their predecessors so one faith would be carried on.
Noting there is the ministry - not many.

[13] Until we all meet into the unity of faith,

Faith must be united...and that would be worldwide faith. Not several different ideas of what that faith would be, but concrete time proven faith.

[14] That henceforth we be no more children tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine by the wickedness of men, by cunning craftiness, by which they lie in wait to deceive. [15] But doing the truth in charity, we may in all things grow up in him who is the head, even Christ:

Children will not be tossed to and fro - ie - one understanding of the one faith. AND not be carried by every new doctrine created by wicked men who would procure heresy.
That means there is but one faith - with unified doctrine...not several of the billions of different ideas men could otherwise chose.

I know right? TKD.. I have 3 with varying degree black belts and three more
