  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I stated on another thread that Abraham and Noah were contemporaries (lived at the same time) and was questioned where this was in the bible. I stated I made a spread sheet from Adam through Isaac showing when they were born and when they died from the ages given in Genesis. Not allowed to upload .xls (Excel spreadsheet) although I'm attaching a screen shot showing that Noah's and Abraham's lives overlapped by many years and that Shem outlived Abraham. This shows a lot of pre-flood information could have been given directly to Abraham.

Your picture is not readable. If you copy your screen and save in jpeg, that would work.

That's what I did and I can read it just fine. Try clicking on it to open it.
I clicked on the link, though it didn't show any dates when it came to comparisions. It simply had the names of characters lining up. Mabye it didn't go through..

In any event, I went back/researched it for myself---and indeed, Noah was a contemporary of Abraham....far older than Abraham and probably on his way out when Abraham was younger. As all of early humanity post-flood would have been universally taught about what happened previously since Noah was charged with the call that Adam had of repopulating the planet, its logical to assume that Abraham would have been taught about that as well.....even though the rest of the world in Abram's day had already begun to rebell against the Lord (Genesis 10-11) and forsake the good that Noah may've taught while remembering/embracing the bad.

For some good resources on the issue:

The dates are in the Excel spreadsheet. Wasn't able to get everything in on the screen shot. It surprised me of the overlap when I created the spread sheet.

Professor Edward Hull did a very detailed chart of this sort, but much much longer, showing the beginning of time up to the 20th century (1994 is the last entry). It is about 18" high and about 12-13 FEET long. It shows too that Shem was not only a contemporary of Abraham but outlived Abraham as well as his nephew, Lot.

He lived to see Isaac born, Isaac married and died 10 years shy of Jacobs birth.

It is also interesting to note that Moses was only twice removed from his great grandfather who went down to Egypt, Levi.

That was my original idea then I discovered it had already been done so I didn't put any more effort into my spreadsheet
