If we give kids condoms it will encourage them to have sex, the same way giving them seatbelts encourages them to have car accidents.

I agree with condoms in school for reasons like this post.
I will encourage my kids to wait until marriage but I know not everyone holds that same belief. I also know not every teen listens to their parents advice and I also know how crippling teen pregnancy can be.
While I don't expect my children to use school bought condoms, I think it's good for the kids who do go against waiting.

It doesn't need to be pedantic but instruction on what constitutes consent absolutely needs to be taught. One serious problem is that many teens are unaware of the age of the consent in their state, and how there's a difference between legal consent and personal consent. Teens have been prosecuted and even forced to go onto sex offenders lists for having "consensual" sex with another teen, because of the age difference between them and what that signifies legally. It never occurred to them that the younger person could not legally consent. The age of consent laws vary by state, and some are a bit nuanced. Many teens simply assume that it's legally permissible to have mutually desired sexual interaction with anyone else at their school. There's a wide age range, with some students in the 9th grade being 13 (or even younger if they've been accelerated) and some in the 11th and 12th grades being 18 or 19; some people might be younger or older than what is typical for their grade, and some do not look their age. Many also falsely assume that sex is only vaginal, and that it is permissible to engage in other sexual activity regardless of ages as long as both are agreeing to it. It is also important not just to learn that "no means no" but to learn how to minimize sending confusing signals.

To tack on something unrelated to your post but related to comprehensive sexual health education, knowledge is also needed that STDs can be transmitted through oral sex and other sexual interaction besides just vaginal. Even at elite colleges with smart students many are oblivious to that fact. Many guys (and their parents) also don't realize that the HPV vaccine can be beneficial to them, because the primary focus in the media is on the protection it provides to girls and women. 50% of sexually active men and women will acquire HPV at some point in their lives. There is so much focus on teenage pregnancy, which is still an issue that must be addressed of course, but the rates for that have been declining in the United States. I definitely think there needs to be stronger education about STDs, as well as issues regarding consent.

There's a thread now about how seatbelt laws are "tyrannical". There are probably some ppl who don't want to use condoms either & just play Russian roulette w pregnancy & STDs. I don't get the objection to seat belts or condoms tbh.

Both my dad and my step dad were of the opinion that seat belt laws were to be ignored since "We ain't under the Law."

It ended up leading to my dad's death. A car pulled out in front of him and he went thru the windshield. That started him on a 3-4 year decline in his health which ended up with him passing away in January 2012.

I guess my own story did not help that. My life was saved (partly) by NOT wearing a seat belt. But that story would be OT here.

Students are not ready for sex. Contrary to popular belief not all students are having sex. The reason why more teens are becoming sexually active is because of the prevalence of sexual songs, pornography, and adult shows and movies. Pornography especially is one of the biggest problems in this world that needs to be stopped.

Why do you care? I assume we can agree that at least some highschool students will have sex, and there's at least a chance that some of those will use a condom, and thereby be better protected against unwanted pregnancy and disease, if provided a condom rather than not.

Perhaps sex ed has changed, but I remember when I was in it, there were quite a few presentations of the physical mechanics of sexual activity. How are students who are not intending to have sex harmed by be given a condom?

They think that obeying civil law means their salvation is based on keeping the Law; i.e. works based salvation.

This is kinda on topic, but the CDC released the Youth Risk Behavior Survellance Survey back in february. It's an annual survey given to teenagers that started being given in 1991 (kids born as early as 1972). The results indicate that kids today.... are doing pretty well. They are more likely to use birth control of some sort if they are sexually active (though condom usage fell after 2003), less likely to have had sex, seem to have sex less often, and are having sex later. There's a bit of wobble in the numbers since 1991, but the general trend has been in a desirable direction.

On non-sex related issues, kids are also less likely to drink alcohol, smoke, fight, binge drink, use cocaine, and carry a weapon.
