• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Its not fair that there is rehab certres all around the world there are rehab centres for drug, alcahol, ED's & ways of stopping smoking but theres only like 2 for cutters & thats all the way in amarica.
When I'm able to beat this, or when I'm old enough.. which ever comes 1st, I want to start one.
I hate being stuck in this & I wanna help b'coz I know what its like to go this alone n its aweful. I dont want anyone to have to suffer & go threw this or longer then it has to. I wouldnt wish it only worst enemy.

There is one very good one all around the basically that will take people who cut. They take all sorts of girls. You may of heard of them, they are called Mercy Ministries. Unfortunally they only take people between 16-28.

I thought that was just a womens shelter...

I dont really want 2 go 2 1. that would involve tellin my mum n yea... nah, not for 4.
what I was trying to make a point of is there isnt one for people who want/need it..
Noone that doesnt do it or know someone doing it knows about it. They just think were weird & suicidal ect. there there needs to be awareness & stuff.

I think we're working on awareness - I'm in Newcastle, NSW and up here we've been working on starting a Mercy Ministries. We have a volunteer group who do fundraisers and talks about things like teen pregnancy, depression, abuse, EDs and SI. At the moment there are two residential places in Australia - one in Sydney and up past Brisbane, but more and more other places are looking to open residential homes around here.

Worldwide, there are more and more groups advocating for preventing self-harm and making it something that can be talked about. Even here, I was listening to Triple's J's 5:30pm program, where they choose a topic or two for the afternoon and talk about it. About a month ago now they did one on SI and the resources avaliable to self-harmers in Australia. At the end of the program there were people who called in and told their own stories. I downloaded the podcast from their website afterwards - the program isn't the best I've heard, but they're really working at making people more aware. (If you want to listen to it, just be careful as parts can be triggery).

On the other hand, you get programs like Today Tonight and 60 Minutes that try to sensualise everything they can. It's another sort of awareness, but honestly, I'd far prefer learning about topics when there aren't motives of simply shocking parents by pointing out how 'deviant' people can be .

Christ in Action,
I totally agree with you. It's like if you have a drug, alcohol, or smoking problem you can drive 10 minutes from you house and find a support group and outpatient rehab program.

If you cut you have to go half way across the country or to another country, leave all your friends and family for like a month. It totally doesn't seem fair.

I guess even though there are tons of cutters and self harmers out there...people just aren't as aware of it.

I'd start a group with ya if i lived in your country!
