  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hebrews 12
:14
Pursue peace with all and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord:
When the Spirit speaks of one who will not see the Lord,
does He refer to “in this life, as in the pure of heart”, or
access to the Holy City in eternity?
******************************************************************
:15 looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God;
lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble,
and by this many become defiled;
It is clearly stated that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”,
but falling short of the Grace of God and allowing a root of bitterness to
not only cause trouble, but defile many is a path to perdition.
1 Corinthians 3:17 If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him.
For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are.
Luke 17:1 Then He said to the disciples, It is impossible that no offenses should come, but woe to him through whom they do come! 2 It would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were thrown into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones.
********************************************************************
:16
lest there be any fornicator or profane person like Esau, who for one morsel of food sold his birthright. 17 For you know that afterward, when he wanted to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no place for repentance, though he sought it diligently with tears.
2 Peter 2:21 For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness,
than having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them.
*******************************************************************
There is a line that if crossed has no place for repentance.
Taking a path of perdition that destroys the lives of others who would otherwise have
found salvation in not the narrow Way that leads to Life, but one that leads to destruction.
Matthew 7:
13 “
Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it.
14 Because narrow is the gate and difficult the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.

Find the Way to be found.
2 Peter 3:14 Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things,
be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless
.

Can you please explain how this view differs from Sinless Perfectionism or Pelagianism?

I know nothing of either. They sound like doctrines of men. You do not have to be perfect to live in the pursuit of holiness and the kingdom of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. You must be in Christ, a living member of His Body. The Lord is a refuge for us. Does either allow for defiling the Temple by allowing a root of bitterness to offend? The passages I cited clearly do not. Could you explain how that relates to either of these things, since you seem to have knowledge of that particular theology.

What the scripture does not fully address is whether the no room for repentance is for something sought with tears is eternal or temporal. Once Esau's birthright was taken away there was nothing that could be done. It was a temporal loss not an eternal one. These temporal losses occur all the time. Things like you treat your spouse bad and they leave you. You are called to ministry but you fail to yield to God. You have a new job opportunity and you fail to follow through.
The next point is huge. If in these severe setbacks one becomes bitter then it will seriously effect the Christian walk. You can cry all you want but some things do not come back, you can change your mind but it is too late.

I got this interpretation for an event in my own life. some mistakes you can not take back. Others also interpret it this way.
"
ESAU’S VAIN TEARS

Hebrews 12:17THESE words have Been often understood as teaching a very ghastly and terrible doctrine, viz., that a man may earnestly and tearfully desire to repent, and be unable to do so. Such teaching has burdened many a heart, and has put obstacles before many feeble feet in the way of a return to God. It seems to me to be contradicted by a thousand places of Scripture, and to involve something very much like a contradiction in terms." See MacLaren's Expositions
here: Hebrews 12:17 Commentaries: For you know that even afterwards, when he desired to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no place for repentance, though he sought for it with tears.

So while we may miss a blessing, the point is to not become bitter. Instead, follow through with God.
