Dear Daily Message Readers,

READ: Matthew 5:13-16

Matthew 5:16 (NIV) "In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven."

I am not going to lie to you. Honesty is still alive and helping people succeed. We often hear reports that today's students (junior high, high school, and college) cheat far too often. This includes stealing answers and plagiarizing papers. But, according to a survey that researchers did about leadership, cheaters won't win. In fact, they may get better grades now and think they are invulnerable, but if they develop a habit of dishonesty, they probably will not climb very far up the corporate ladder.

The main reason honesty is so vital is that God says it is. Here are a few verses that help illustrate this point:
  • "The LORD detests lying lips, but he delights in men who are truthful."--Proverbs 12:22
  • "But as for your question, you know the commandments: `Do not murder. Do not commit adultery. Do not steal. Do not testify falsely. Do not cheat. Honor your father and mother.'"--Mark 10:19 (NLT)
  • "And so, since God in his mercy has given us this wonderful ministry, we never give up.2We reject all shameful and underhanded methods. We do not try to trick anyone, and we do not distort the word of God. We tell the truth before God, and all who are honest know that."--2 Corinthians 4:1-2 (NLT)

Are there any excuses for not telling the truth? No, there are not. When we tell a partial truth ( a “white lie"), we are still lying. But when we tell the truth, we bring glory to God. We also spare ourselves a whole lot of trouble. And that isn't a lie! Faith Lesson: "Lies are like boomerangs--they have a way of returning to the person who started it."--Anon.

In Christ,
Darin Smith
