I would point out there was another obnoxious female on Lost who went from universally despised to sort of respected. (Shanon, Boones `sister').

I am not a fan of Nikki either but she does have two pretty large assets that will keep the men watching.

I did too, at first. When I thought they were just going for some extra realism by showing that there actually were other people on the plane.

But as soon as they started going on quests with Locke and getting more heavily involved with storylines, I balked.

How do I explain it...? Hm...

Okay, it's like you're with a group of good friends. You've all been friends for two years and you know each other very well. You get together every week, always have a great time, and have become quite close.

Then one day, you're hanging out with your friends, and a couple of people you've never seen before come over and ask if they can join your group. You don't want to be rude, so you say okay. But then they start to butt in on your conversations, shadow you wherever you go, and generally act as if they know you just as well as your good friends know you -- but they don't, you don't have that relationship with them, you've only just met them, so why are they trying to act like they've always been part of your group?

It feels forced, you don't know them, and you don't really want to have these people as your new "instant-friends". Relationships have to grow and form naturally, and that hasn't happened. They shouldn't be pretending that it has.

That's Niki and Paulo to me.

I guess I just don't feel the "forcedness" of Nikki and Paolo... They are just background characters that are being brought forward. I will agree that it's kind of a sudden thing but it doesn't make me hate them.

Maybe what they should do is have all of the extras rotate chances to interact with the core characters. That way it won't feel like a couple of them were suddenly elevated in stature. Then they could slowly build a few of them up. Bernard and Rose could certainly be involved again once in a while.

That would be a good idea, and much more realistic too.
